5 out of 5 stars Excellant Product   September 2, 2008

I think erythritol is an excellant choice for a natural sugar replacement. It is the closest thing to real sugar taste I have found. My only complaint is that (like sugar) it doesn't dissolve unless its put in something warm enough to melt it. So, I use my magic bullet to powder it, and it dissolves much more readily into my plain yogurt. I highly recommend this product.

If you do some research on natural sweeteners with a zero glycemic index, you will see that Erythritol is one of the best. It is a sugar alcohol found in various fruits and vegetables like Xylitol. But unlike Xylitol, it is not dangerously toxic to dogs and does not have bloating, gaseous or laxative effects. If you don't need a sweetener without blood sugar effects, you can look at brown rice syrup or agave, since they have a very low effect on blood sugar. If you want no blood sugar effects at all, I'd recommend this, since it has a very nice taste (like sugar) with no aftertaste. Stevia is another option, but is very strong and has a less appealing taste. If you use even a bit too much, Stevia generally has a rather bitter aftertaste. This is not true of Erythritol. br / br /Note: If you want to buy this particular item, I discovered that this company has not charged me extra shipping for more bags going to the same address. I would avoid EmeraldForest, though, because the Erythritol I got from them had a very strange, foul smell -- like mothballs -- and had a faint aftertaste that was the same. Their customer service was very nasty when I called to return it. I am sticking with this one from now on.

5 out of 5 stars Tastes just like sugar   February 6, 2008

I am not interested in baking desserts. I just want a low-carb sweetener for the few cups of tea I drink in the morning. I've been using agave nectar, which has a low glycemic load. It is hard to believe that it is ok because it is so delicious. I still have to count the carbs/calories with agave nectar, though. br / br /I have tried nutrasweet, splenda, stevia, and xylitol. Erythritol delighted me because it tastes just like sugar and easiest to use because it measures almost the same. It is more economical in bulk. NOW brand always impresses me with quality and economy.

This item is the same as Zsweet, but at half the price. It came on time, tasted the same as any other Erythritol product I had tried before, and was half the price...need i say more? br / If you haven't tried Eythritol as a sugar substitute, and are looking for something that tastes just as good, but doesn't have the same drawbacks as sugar...this is it. Give it a try for yourself.

I tried this so far with 2 recipes. One was banana bread and the other is with canned apples. It's really hard to tell that it's not sugar. I typically mix about 33-50% of this stuff and the rest with Splenda since it's so expensive. I didn't want the gastrointestinal side effects of the other sugar alcohols. In other words, you pee most of this stuff out instead of all of it going the other way. br / br /It was worth trying for me. I have found a few good recipes using this stuff and I'll play with it more around Thanksgiving.
