Certain to be a revolution in reading! July 7, 2008 Will have as much effect on how people read as the Commodore 64 did on computing. Brilliant technology!
The Kindle is Wonderful! July 6, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have owned my Kindle for two months and love it. A few days ago I picked up a paperback novel off my old (and now dusty) bookcase and tried to read it. Not only was it heavy and cumbersome, but I had to manually turn the pages!! I have convinced my sister & best friend to buy one & highly recommend it anyone that asks, "What is that you are holding and what does it do?"
Better than I expected July 6, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I can't believe that I went all my life without this... When I first learned about the Amazon Kindle I immediately went to compare it with the Sony ebook and thought from the written reviews that the Kindle had many more features available. I was not disappointed with that. I met a friend one day who was reading a book (made of paper) and telling me how good it was. Of course, I had my Kindle with me (never leave home without it now) and before she finished telling me about the book, I had it downloaded. Since my husband usually reads the paper books that I finished, his first reaction when I purchased the Kindle was.."now what am I going to do?.."-- so I bought him one for a gift after finding out that you can transfer books between Kindles on the same account. Now for my disappointment with the Kindle--I wish that the pages of the books were numbered by page instead of by lines. It would be much easier to find my place in case of accidental button pushing for next or previous pages. However, I have now gotten in the habit of putting it to sleep each time I put it down even for a minute or two. The page buttons on the side are very sensitive but also extremely easy to get used to. I have used the dictionary numerous times - I recommend the Kindly to all who ask what I am reading.
Kindle for my college bound nephew July 6, 2008 0 out of 6 found this review helpful
I recently bought the Kindle for my nephew, who just graduated high school and is on his way to college in the fall. I did so in the hopes that text book publishers will eventually make their books available for the Kindle. Perhaps this is a pipe dream, but it would help cut down the cost of going to college if they did. But even if they don't, it should still save him money on non-text books that may be required reading in some classes.
Since I haven't used it, I can't really rate it. But I'm forced to, to publish this review, so I gave it three stars. I did so because I saw it when my nephew turned it on for the first time, and it did live up to the claims that it is a close second to real paper. If text books become available on the Kindle, I would up grade my rating, as I may if I get one of my own.
I Love My Kindle July 6, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I received my Kindle for Father's day and have really enjoyed it. There were initial problems with connecting to the Sprint Whispernet Network, but that has been corrected. The price of books on Kindle versus what I was paying in the bookstore is a definite plus. The multiple fonts help when the eyes are tired! One downside is the ease of buying books. One click an it's done! While the list of books available is extensive, there are a few authors that I would like to see more books from. Kindle owners need to email their favorite authors and their publishers about including their books on Kindle. Bottom line is, I have enjoyed my Kindle and would buy it again!
