WARNING FOR MAC USERS! July 11, 2008 Reykjavik (long island) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This product doesn't work on a Mac. I'm returning mine today. Its a shame too because the features that I was able to use looked great. But if you want it to watch your vid files from your computer on your TV (which I presume is what most people want it for since I can't imagine why any one would want to spend $220 to listen to music and look at low-res pictures on their TV) then this won't work. That is because it requires a special feature only found on Windows Media Player 11. Yes, Microsoft does make a WMP for Mac. Only problem is it only goes up to WMP 9 - which doesn't contain that required feature. Last I heard Microsoft has stopped developing it as well, so no chance that it will ever come out. So if you have a mac and want to watch your ripped DVD's or video files on this, don't bother, it won't work. I suppose if you want it for the other features (TV web browser, movie rentals and widgets) then its probably a good product. But it seems like a pricey gadget just to browse the web on.
An inexpensive and simple DVR June 16, 2008 Thomas A. Tag (Chicago, Il USA) I wanted to replace a VCR with a simple DVR that did not require a monthly payment for service. The Archos TV+ met all my needs. It is simple to set up (use the online PDF manual) and record to your hearts content.
It's OK June 2, 2008 Steven B. Stuart It does access my files so I can play things. When I connected to my WiFi it offered a firmware upgrade that made the cursor go away. The only thing I can do is browse my files with a Windows Explorer type thing. No access to the harddrive in the unit without the cursor, and no way to use most of the features on this thing without it. As others have said: they won't help you. They won't respond to e-mail and their website doesn't let you ask without a special passcode - and they won't tell me how to create one because they don't respond to e-mails. Many video formats require that you purchase drivers...but I can't even do that because I can't create an account. In summary: it plays OK. Life is better with this thing...I just wish they'd answer just a couple of questions.
WiFi is a must May 27, 2008 Juan Lopez WiFi is a must with this product to get the full benefits. I don't have WiFi so not that great for my personal use. Actually difficult to set up. Better to purchase the Archos 504 or the such which is easy to use and set up.
What I've been looking for. April 28, 2008 Bullaguard (mn) I've been searching for something like this for a long time. This does play my mp3 and most of my avi. file. I don't feel it's right to charge to get upgrades in software to play more files. Transferring took some time. I did have to restart my pc and the achos tv to get things to work right. It also freezes at point during transfer but does start again on it own. I don't plan on using the web feature. I don't even have it hook up to record at this time. I would like to just enter the time and starting like my old vcr to record something instead of selecting from a guide that I have to pay for after the first year. In all, This is a great box. The 80 gb should be enough for anybody since its next worked to your pc and allows external hard drive to be plugged in.
