POOR SOUND QUALITY August 19, 2008 Lightworker (USA) This JWIN portable player has enough functions to appease the average user but sound quality is very poor. It has a base boost switch but this accomplishes virtually nothing - changing the sound from totally tinny to less tinny. And watch out for the tape eating monster!! Four weeks into it, and it chewed up a couple of my cassette tapes, and is skipping and jumping on the CD's. Junk.Jwin Jxcd472 Portable Cd/Mp3 Player/recorder With Am/Fm Radio
Good Quality-Great Value July 4, 2008 M. Sherman (NYC, NY USA) I bought this boombox a few weeks ago, after reading the reviews on Amazon, and I expected it to be a decent, basic boombox that could play MP3 CD's; well, it has exceeded all my expectations. I mostly use this to listen to audio books, and old time radio shows, and also to listen to classical music. The radio is OK, but a digital tuner would have been nice; I didn't have any problems tuning in various stations. The CD player is excellent and the MP3 player also excellent- it's played everything I tried; it would be nice to have a better display, however. It works very well on batteries, so far I have used it for about 6 hours without need to change batteries. Be aware that you have to disconnect the power cord if you want to use it on batteries- otherwise it doesn't start. The only negative I've found is that the bass output is pretty weak. This isn't an issue for use with audio books, OTR, or for most classical music, but forget about loud dance music. Overall, I strongly recommend this as a great value in a MP3 CD capable boombox.
Doesn't play MP3 CDs June 12, 2008 Rao S. Bhamidipati (USA) Just received the unit yesterday. Opened it today, and put in the MP3 CD that plays perfectly in my other boombox (kids wanted to use it so I had to buy another piece for myself). Wouldn't recognize the CD, tried everything that I could think of. Now, I have to return it. The unfortunate experience is that I can't even get to Amazon's return page - either that part of the App is down or something else is the issue. So, I have to try that tomorrow. Absolutely will not recommend this unit unless you want to go thru the pain that I am going thru.
Not Bad Despite Some Quibbles May 9, 2008 asfhgwt (PA, USA) This item replaced a five-year-old GTX model which broke when I dropped it. The JWin had some trouble reading my MP3 disks at first, but eventually seemed to "figure it out." (Yes, I know this is impossible. The disks may simply be more scratched than average.) Sound quality is a bit on the tinny side, and even with the bass-boost active there isn't a heckuva lot of bass. The non-backlit display only shows the number of songs on the CD/MP3 and the number of the song that's playing, which is pretty weak. The CD/MP3 control buttons are on the front of the unit, and I'd prefer them on top. The tape buttons are arranged in a funny sequence, and the unit ate one of my tapes. Still, an MP3 boombox is hard to find, and for $40 I can play my MP3s again while I exercise.
The CD player on this boom box suddenly died after a few months May 1, 2008 Sherlock I bought this because I sometimes like to listen to CDs and MP3 CDs at night before going to sleep. Initially I would have given this product a high rating but, for no apparent reason, the CD player on this boom box suddenly died about 5 months after I bought it. The sad thing is that I didn't use it very often so there was really no valid reason for the break down. I can only assume that this is a typical made in China piece of junk that deceptively seems to perform well for awhile. Buyer beware!
