Product Description The HK 3490 was born to make beautiful music and, like all specialists, it's very good at what it does. It features high-current, ultrawide-bandwidth amplification, a signature Harman Kardon technology that delivers all the subtlety of an original musical performance, whether reproduced from vinyl or your MP3 player of choice. But even specialists enjoy a change of pace from time to time. So the HK 3490 also features four high-quality composite video inputs, and convenient front-panel inputs for video games and portable audio players.BRBRAt 120 watts per channel, this powerful HK 3490 stereo receiver combines all of an audiophile's must-haves (high performance phono preamp, preouts/main-in jacks, high-current amplification) with an array of multichannel extras (digital-audio inputs, video switching, dual subwoofer outputs and Dolby Virtual Speaker technology). Add the optional Bridge II docking station, and the HK 3490 will connect as elegantly to your newfangled iPod as it does to your time-honored turntable. The HK 3490 isn't a snob about where the music comes from, as long as it sounds great when it reaches its final destination: your ears. Connects to the optional Harman Kardon-engineered The Bridge II docking station for iPod playback, control and charging Stereo preamp outputs allow the use of an external power amplifier Two digital audio inputs (one coaxial and one digital) Convenient front-panel audio/video input for use with video games or portable players One high-quality phono input for connection of record players with an MM cartridge Two analog recording outputs (tape and video) FM stereo/FM/AM tuner with RDS, auto preset, direct-access tuning and 30 presets Two-line dot-matrix display for clear visibility Dimmer reduces the brightness of the information screen, or switches it off completely

Clean, precise, and powerful. Terrible remote! October 8, 2008 Kirk Haynes (Missouri, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I looked at several differnt brands of receivers including Onkyo, Yamaha, and Denon. This receiver had the most power and the cleanest sound for the money. I have it powering two sony tower speakers. These speakers have never sounded so good. I can only imagine what it will sound like with a set of high end speakers. The receiver produces delicate highs and decent bass, and with the 2 powered sub outs you can add as much bass as you like. Overall I am very satisfied. You can't beat the the price (from Amazon anyways). br / br /My only complaint is the remote. It is Huge!! and awkward. And it doesn't work all that well either, you have to be pointing it at the receiver perfectly for it to be of any use. There is an out on the back that lets you add a remote sensor that might help, I have not tried that yet.
Fantastic October 6, 2008 B. Z. Monnerat (Brazil) This is what consumer eletronics should be all about: sleek design, excellent performance, ease of use and reasonable price. This HK3490 scores. Just don't miss it.
HK 3490 September 30, 2008 jls75man (Terrell Texas USA) Quick shipping, easy tracking. Package was beat up pretty bad. So of course I was worried some what. Being double boxed and with some luck, receiver is fine and works great as expected. Great band for the buck. Highly recommended for 2 channel system with plenty of power. Im using it with a 120 watt powered sub, a pair of cerwin vegas AT 12, with eminance 12" 200 watt rms woofer replacements for spk A and for spk B a pair of vintage tempest Lab series 3 bookshelf spk. results in rich bass and great clarity totally clean crisp sound.
Too many frills not enough performance September 22, 2008 M Jones (Peoria,IL) 0 out of 10 found this review helpful
Made in China cheap junk, certainly not the quality of the old HK stuff. For the price I guess it is acceptable but if you want something with high power and clean undistorted sound you are going to have to spend much more money.
Exactly what I was looking for September 14, 2008 pfed (nyc) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I've had this receiver for a little over a week now, and I am incredibly impressed. I'm a college student working on creating my first high-end stereo system, and this receiver fit the bill precisely. I'm powering a set of Cambridge Soundworks T205 speakers, and they sound unbelievable with this receiver. The towers are bi-wireable, so I wired the high end to the A speaker-set and the low end to the B speaker-set, which allows for terrific separation of the of the high's and low's. br /bottom line: for the money, this receiver is a no-brainer. incredible sound (not noticing any color or distortion), its varying inputs are a plus (few stereo receivers in this price-range have digital input, which are great for hooking up computers), and it can really crank up the volume when needed (no distortion at high or low volume). br / br /There are higher-end stereo receivers with more features and the like out there, but this is a no-compromise solution if it has all the features you want.
