Amazon.com Product Description
Stylishly modern and nicely compact, the thin-profile Philips MCM275 mini stereo system has a flat profile that can either sit on a bookshelf or be wall-mounted (with included screws). The CD player spins vertically to save space, and this system measures just 3.54 inches deep. It also includes a digital AM/FM tuner and two detachable 5-watt speakers that can mount individually or stay attached to the entire unit. You'll get an even deeper sound from your favorite music thanks to Philips' Dynamic Bass Boost and Digital Sound Control features.

In addition to standard audio CDs, the MCM275 is also compatible with CD-R/RW discs burned with your favorite mixes, as well as discs burned with MP3 and WMA digital audio files. This unit also includes a USB Direct, which enables you to plug in a USB-compatible MP3 player and play music directly from that device. The CD player has 40-track programming with repeat one/all/program and shuffle capability. The digital AM/FM tuner includes 40 station presets. Other features include a blue LCD, clock with alarm and sleep timer functions, 3.5mm headphone jack, and remote control.

Dynamic Bass Boost emphasizes the bass content of music throughout the range of volume settings--from low to high--at the touch of a button. Bottom-end bass frequencies usually get lost when the volume is set at a low level. To counteract this, Dynamic Bass Boost can be switched on to boost bass levels, so you can enjoy consistent sound even when you turn down the volume.

The Digital Sound Control feature lets you select from pre-set modes that control the frequency bands of sound to optimize certain musical styles. You can chose between different sound settings--Optimal, Jazz, Rock, Techno, Pop or Classic. Each mode uses graphic equalizing technology to automatically adjust the sound balance and enhance the most important sound frequencies in your chosen music style.

4 out of 5 stars Very good overall   October 4, 2008
Michael Shoupe (Natrona Heights, PA USA)
We are very happy with this system so far. The MP3 functionality worked perfectly the first time with both CD's and a flash drive. The only major drawback is that the "random" function doesn't seem to work in MP3 mode, so we always have to listen to the songs in the same order. Other than that, the system looks and sounds great.

1 out of 5 stars JUNK! Stopped working after 1 week.   October 1, 2008

Can I give a 0 Star? A piece of Junk, stopped working after 1 week!

1 out of 5 stars Poor quality, waste of money.   September 28, 2008

I have used this product for only a few months and it has already stopped working normally. The motor doesn't have enough power to pull/down the door for add/remove CD's from it.

Was cool looking when it was working, over time it will just be a paper weight.

Also the sound was very low quality and the remote is difficult to use (yes that's true!).

A large majority of Philips/Magnavox products are crappy quality and poor warranty support. Stay away!

5 out of 5 stars Almost perfect for my needs   August 30, 2008

I purchased this because I needed a small stereo for my bedroom for playing music to go to sleep by that would shut itself off automatically after playing a CD. I was particularly interested in this model because it was Energy-Star rated, and so wouldn't be a vampire that sucked electricity when it was "off." (The CD player I was previously using would not turn itself "off" automatically after playing a CD, and drew about 8 watts of power even when it was "off"!)

I have been using this for about a month and am completely satisfied. It has two "off" modes, one that is really a standby (with a lighted display) and the other that is the power-saving mode (with no display) that draws almost no power (less than a watt). I was very happy that I was able to set it up so that it would both turn off manually and automatically into the power-saving mode, and that the remote still works in even the power-saving mode. I did not buy this stereo for the remote, but the remote has proved to be very handy, as I can easily operate the stereo without getting out of bed.

The sound is good and everything works great. My only tiny complaint is that when the stereo is on, its display is really too bright for a bedroom (I had to cover the display with a Post-It note). But in all other respects, this system beautifully delivers what I need.

2 out of 5 stars OVERPRICED   August 12, 2008

Item looks good on wall but does not have the greatest sound quality and seems to be a bit cheaply built. For the money I would get a nice shelf unit.
