Editorial Reviews:

Description
Kong, a professional killer, has been mute since childhood. He plies the city's bitterest streets, with silence his only response to the killings and assassinations he performs. He is deadly. He is numb. He enacts his grisly tasks with a sociopathic coldness -his steady, impersonal revenge on the world. Ultimately, the chance for his transformation (and redemption) finally arrives in the form of a girl able to provide the only tenderness and warmth he's ever known. It could save him. It could kill him. A gritty story, the film is a powerful thriller, with strong emphasis on style, suave cutting techniques, effects, and urbane production values. Fast-paced, bloody and exciting, this film shows Bangkok's darker worlds, and the glimmer of hope possible in the dimmest of lives. It's a film about cities, a film about death. With its high-speed chases, its gunfire and action, its intensity, Bangkok Dangerous is a killer.

4 out of 5 stars Mad Grimy   September 22, 2008
Moe Mentum (New Jersey)
But i did like it. You can tell it was shot with a low budget it almost looks like its real footage shot with a video camera. I liked the remake slightly better, but this is worth a peep

5 out of 5 stars Stylished violence and good story   August 31, 2008
Jose Zavala Zavala (Zamora, Michoacan, Mexico)
It's easy to understand why this movie marked the new quality standards for Thai movies, and Thai movies have won fame and respect all around the world.

Fine direction, creative photography, solid characters and not "the Hollywood beautiful type". The influences of Hong Kong productions and The Perfect Assasin are evident however Bangkok Dangerous has its own unique features. The final scene it's just to think over (abused people become cruel and then we get scared for that, but never do something to protect the weak before they turn into criminals).

BD is a movie to behold and enjoy.

3 out of 5 stars Interesting use of inexpensive camera techniques   July 31, 2008
ScrawnyPunk (Houston, TX USA)
This is a semi-interesting tale of a deaf-mute hitman who achieves a redemptive state after befriending/falling in love with a pretty shop girl. Only after receiving tenderness for the first time in his life does he come to understand his lifestyle for what it is (reprehensible) and begins to make amends the only way he knows how.

The 'meditation on violence' trope is beginning to wear thin to my eyes, but the setting went a long way towards keeping my interest. The filthy alleyways and seedy strip clubs establish the low value placed on human life in the circles traveled by the protagonist. This vehicle allows his rapid repentance a little more believable than it would have been otherwise.

The real gem is the camera technique. Without obvious recourse to the filmographic techniques made available to massive-budget films, the directors use a great number of subtle camera tricks to establish a mood and a style which go a long way towards making up the film's tiny budget. Scratched film in flash-backs, blurred vision during chases, documentary-style use of extras in multiple scenes (specifically the hit from the roof), and other inexpensive tricks move this film closer to Tony Scott than to John Woo.

All in all, this is a three-stars film. If the plot was a little more compelling I would have ranked it higher.

4 out of 5 stars A SOLID ACTION/DRAMA/SUSPENSE FILM FROM CHINA   July 28, 2005
MICHAEL TAYLOR (RICHMOND, VA USA)
AN EXPERT KILLER MEETS A WOMAN WHO MAY BE THE KEY TO MAKING HIM CHANGE HIS LIFESTYLE. FULL OF ACTION, FULL OF EXCITEMENT, AND EVEN SHOWS A LITTLE MEANING TOWARD THE END. MOST AMERICAN FILMS NOWADAYS FAIL TO BE THIS GOOD. IF YOU LOVE FOREIGN FILMS, YOU SHOULD LOVE THIS ONE. FILMS LIKE THIS SHOW THAT THERE'S MORE TO CHINESE FILMMAKING THAN JUST MARTIAL ARTS FILMS. I'D RECCOMEND IT TO ANY FOREIGN FILM LOVER. IN CHINESE WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES.

3 out of 5 stars The cover is cool but...   January 21, 2005

The movie itself isn't as exciting as I had hoped. About the escapades of a deaf hitman, it has its moments as he falls in love and out of touch with his life. The are a few easy to hate antagonists as well as the love stricken lead killer. Overall, it didn't hold my attention as I wanted it to. A decent effort but more for big Asian film fans.
