It's silly, it's superficial, it's so desperately earnest about its tale of time-spanning love that you almost wish for a cheap flatulence gag just to break the solemn mood. But there's something so unabashedly gushy and entertaining about ISomewhere in Time/I that you can't begrudge its enduring popularity. The film has become a staple of romantic-movie lovers since its release in 1980, and endless showings on cable TV have turned it into a dubious classic of sorts--a three-hanky weeper that anyone can enjoy as a guilty pleasure or a beloved favorite, with no apologies necessary. pIn his first film after the star-making success of ISuperman/I, Christopher Reeve stars as a contemporary playwright who visits a posh hotel and sees the portrait of an actress (Jane Seymour) who had performed there in 1912. He becomes obsessed with this beautiful woman and learns all he can about her, and then discovers a method of hypnotically transporting himself backward in time to meet her. "Is it ... you?" she says upon seeing the lovestruck playwright, and it's clearly a mutual attraction. This is a fantasy movie from start to finish. But it is very well cast and the props and scenic backdrops are fantastic. Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour are wonderfully romantic. A love story about time travel for the ages in my opinion. It's my all time favorite.

This movie along with "Superman" are Christopher Reeve's best films.It is Jane Seymour's finest hour. So why is there STILL not an anamorphic(Enhanced for 16x9 T.V.)widescreen version available on dvd??? The score is one of composer John Barry's best, and yet no 5.1 surround or even dolby surround??? Come on Universal, get with the program. Christopher Reeve deserves better than this for one of the 2 best films of his career. The extras are great, the movie is great, this dvd's video audio presentation , however, is not. By a long shot. Hopefully by the time the film's 30th anniversary rolls around we'll have this film available on dvd properly presented as the classic, heart wrenching, wonderfully imaginative romantic fantasy it is.

This is such a unique story; it is a love story but that is not all. It is a mystery unlike any other. It is a visually beautiful movie as well. You will want to watch it more than once!

"Somewhere In Time" is a classic tale, representative of how two spirits, truly separated, cannot be separated, even by time and space. It seems that few people truly find this kind of love, but once found, it rings quite true. With true soulmates, even death cannot separate the two because the two are one and I feel this movie portrays that kind of love well. Saying some words and signatures on paper can never compare to God truly uniting two souls together as one. br / br /Today, many people run out and get married in order to legally have sex and children, yet they don't share this true union of the souls. As difficult as it is to wait for such a union, there is nothing else that can compare. Even having loved and lost in the past has no bearing on this kind of love. May everyone find this kind of love once in their life before they pass from this earthly plane. br / br /Cal Jennings br / br /
