4 out of 5 stars A great first crib!   July 15, 2008
C. Tockey (Charleston, SC USA)
This is my first child and she slept in a Pack 'n' Play her first year of life. My parents bought this for me, hubby put it together, and baby LOVES it! The first thing she did was bounce around on the springy mattress (you can't do that in a PNP!). To answer a concern of a previous 2-star reviewer, so far the crib seems solid as my 21-lb daughter bounces around in it.

She also immediately started biting the railing, and the paint has begun to chip off already (another concern by the same reviewer). This is somewhat alarming to me, and I will try to find a teething rail cover or something like that.
I LOVE the drawer underneath. It holds all her smaller toys and she can't get to it yet, when I don't pull it out for her (a plus, since I control the messy times now). :D

Overall a decent crib. True, the railing doesn't go down, but I didn't need that for a one-year-old. The drawer is pretty thin and almost flimsy, but it works for gentle parental use. The paint comes off with teething children, but the overall framework seems very sturdy.

2 out of 5 stars Almost...   June 29, 2008

We're still waiting to put our crib together. Why??? Because the front railing piece came with inaccurately pre-drilled holes. The company is sending a new piece pronto but that's a big drag. Apparently the company knows about this issue...So you'd think they'd remedy it before they sent out other pieces...
The paint smells. Air it out before you stick your kid in it. I wish we could afford a $800+ crib but this will have to do!
Ok, two weeks later and our baby is happy in the crib. It took the company TWO tries to send us the right replacement piece. First they sent the wrong color... Anyhoo, now that it is all over, I'm really pretty happy with it. I love the idea of a convertable crib and I think this'll do just fine.

2 out of 5 stars Side rail does not lower!   June 22, 2008

We bought this crib for our 3rd because it has a good price and converts to toddler bed then full headboard. The trundle drawer is a plus too. However I was disappointed to see that the crib side rail does not lower. Granted, the description does not say that it doesn't lower, but since I've never heard of a crib with a stationary side rail, it never occurred to me that it wouldn't. This is a deal-breaker for me - how can you lower a sleeping baby into a crib with the rail raised?? Also there is no plastic teething guard on the side rail. A baby WILL chew on the rail once it can stand up, and this thin paint is very likely to chip off.

Another disappointment is the poor finish, which seems barely applied in some areas, and is a completely different white on the solid end panels (because they are a cheaper-grade wood composite).

Final disappointment is that the mattress support is not a spring frame but rather a frame of immobile metal rods to hold the mattress. I'm sure they are sturdy, but what about when the baby is able to stand up and start bouncing/jumping? I'm afraid this composite wood frame would not hold out without a spring frame to absorb the impact.
