Amazon.com Product Description A powerful and sleek multimedia and messaging phone, the Samsung Glyde for Verizon boasts a robust feature-set, an innovative and colorful touchscreen, and full QWERTY keyboard. The 2.8-inch advanced touchscreen offers a tactile response as you tap onscreen buttons, and the slide-out QWERTY makes it easy to stay in contact via text and instant messaging. It's compatible with Verizon's V Cast Music Service, which enables you to purchase songs through your phone and download them via Verizon's fast EV-DO data network. You'll also stay on course thanks to the VZ Navigator GPS turn-by-turn direction service. Other features include a 2.0-megapixel camera, microSD memory expansion (up to 8 GB), Bluetooth connectivity for both communication headsets and stereo headphones, and up to 3.5 hours of talk time.
The 2.8-inch display doubles as a state-of-the-art interactive touch pad for more user-friendly navigation. | Verizon Service Options With support for the EV-DO high-speed data standard, you'll enjoy fast access to the Internet and Verizon's multimedia services (additional charges applicable), with average download speeds ranging from 400 to 700 Kbps and peak rates up to 2 Mbps. (Learn more about where EV-DO coverage is offered.) The V Cast Music service enables you to download songs instantly to your phone, or purchase music through your PC and transfer the files to your phone. If purchased from your phone, you'll receive two copies of the song: a Windows Media Audio Pro Plus format at 64Kbps stereo is sent to your phone, and a Windows Media Audio 9 format at 160Kbps stereo is sent to your account in the V CAST Music online store for downloading to your PC. V Cast Music offers nearly 2 million songs, with more being added all the time. The V Cast Video service enables you to stream or download video clips to your phone from a variety of news, entertainment, sports, and weather channels, including CNN, ABC News, E!, CBS Sports, The Weather Channel, and VH1. Getting on the Internet is easy using Verizon's Mobile Web 2.0 package, which allows you to read and send e-mails, exchange instant messages and view your favorite web content on your phone. Verizon's Get It Now wireless download service is also fully compatible with this phone. This pay-per-download service features application downloads, games and productivity tools. You can also personalize your handset with ringtone downloads using the Get It Now service. With this GPS-enabled phone, you'll be able to access Verizon's VZ Navigator service (additional charges applicable) for voice-prompted turn-by-turn directions, heads-up alerts, local search of nearly 14 million points of interest in the US (such as landmarks, restaurants and ATMs), and detailed color maps.
With one quick slide, enjoy a large QWERTY keyboard to text or IM friends with lightening speed. | Phone Features The combination touchscreen, slider keyboard design of the Samsung Glyde provides a variety of ways of interacting with the phone's features. The large touch-enabled LCD measures 2.8 inches vertically and has a 240 x 440-pixel resolution and support for 262K colors. The front of the chassis has a single button (much like another, often talked about touchscreen phone), and the phone offers most of its controls via the touchscreen--which provides adjustable haptic vibrating feedback, so you know when you've pressed a button. The front of the Glyde's face slides open from the left side of the phone and it's easy to open and close with just one hand. When the keyboard is opened, the display automatically changes to landscape orientation. The keyboard offers no dedicated numbers, so you'll do your dialing via the numeric keypad that appears on the or touchscreen. The Glyde can store up to 500 contacts, with each entry able to store five phone numbers, two email addresses, notes, and a picture ID. It's compatible with saving contacts to groups and pairing contacts with a ringtone (polyphonic or real music ringer). The phone has a 45 MB internal memory, which is expandable via optional microSD memory cards (up to 8 GB in size). It also provides speaker-independent voice activated commands, including dial, menu readout, text message readout, and call announcement. A speakerphone means you can easily talk hands-free, while Bluetooth (version 1.2) allows you to use your favorite wireless headset. With the A2DP Bluetooth profile, you can stream your music to a pair of compatible Bluetooth stereo headphones. It also includes profiles for printing images directly to printers, dial-up networking, and sending vCard and vCalendar items to other phones. The 2-megapixel camera has six resolution modes for still photos (from 1600 x 1200 for printing to 176 x 144 pixels for sending via MMS). It features a 9x digital zoom, an integrated flash, self-timer, multi-shot mode, and customizable settings for brightness and white balance. The camera can also capture video with sound and it offers two resolution settings (320 x 240 and 176 x 144 pixels). You can shoot for up to 30 seconds for sending or as long as you have space on your optional memory card. You can easily add new music to your collection while on the go from Verizon's V Cast Music service and listen to them on the integrated digital audio player, which offers compatibility with MP3, WMA, AAC/AAC+ file formats. You can sync your tunes from your PC (Windows Media Player 11 or higher), as well as create and manage playlists right on the phone. The enV2 can also play video clips from Verizon's V Cast Video service, and ti's compatible with WMV, MP4, 3GP, and 3G2 formats.

There's also a complete e-mail client on the device for POP- and IMAP-based accounts. And of course, the QWERTY keyboard makes it a snap to type your messages. The Glyde ships with a number of handy tools, including a calendar and a voice memo application. An alarm clock and calculator are also included. Looks can be Deceiving! August 21, 2008 Pixie0422 (Waterford, CT United States) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was so excited to get this phone. I have been a customer of Verizon for eight years and their network has never let me down. However, their choice of cell phones has always been a little disappointing. The last phone I had was an LG EnV. The keyboard and the interface was great, the technology left a lot to be desired. I went through three of them and ended up getting this phone after a serious complaint to Verizon. I thought to choose the Glyde because I was DONE with LG and I had a Samsung previously and it never let me down. I was apprehensive about the size of the keyboard, but I was seduced by the touch screen and its sleek good looks. Boy, was I LET DOWN. The only thing that seems to be slightly reliable it that tiny keyboard! I am on my second phone already and I have only had this phone for about two weeks! One day I woke up and my first one was completely dead. Wouldn't turn on or anything! It was such a hassle to go back to the store to get a replacement. My second one does not seem to be faring any better. The touch technology is terrible and doesn't respond half the time. Or it responds to a button half way across the screen! When it is opened, forget it. The touch screen barely works at all. It constantly makes calls when in my pocket and the autolock is going to be the death of me. It is absolutely annoying. Plus, you have to touch a million buttons just to do simple tasks like send a text or find recent calls. I miss my Send button sooooo much. This phone is definitely going back before my 30 day return policy expires. I have never hated a phone as much as I hate this one. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!
TRASH!!!!!!! August 10, 2008 monketcat (NY) Dont buy this piece of trash!!!If you did return it within the 30 day period.HURRY!There is a glitch with the screen after about one month the screen will not work properly. No matter where you touch it it will select whatever it wants.I went through 3 of them with the same problem in just over 2 months.Tech support says there will be a program to fix this at the end of the month but who wants to wait for this and pray it works? I missed the 30 day return period and Verizon wanted to keep replacing this phone with the same model. After 3x I had enough. I had to fight like hell to get something else.Only after trying to cancel all 4 lines on my account did they break down and give me another model.I will still go to another company after my contracts all run out because of this piece of trash product and Verizons POOR cust service.Way to go jerks!
Samsung Glyde August 9, 2008 Linda M. Griffin I'm actually using my mothers account, but thats beside the point. My mom bought me the Samsung Glyde for my birthday, and i loved it. I loved the touch screen, the QWERTY keyboard, its compact size. However, I am going to return it tomorrow for either the Dare or the Voyager. The Glyde does not let you record your own ringtones. You can record "sounds", but you cannot set them as a ringtone, from what I know, the only way to get a new ringtone is to purchase it. And many times, the touchscreen is either unresponsive, or it responds in a different way than you chose. For example, if I'm on the main menu, and I want to go to Get It Now, sometimes it will select Messaging, even when you clearly put your finger over Get It Now. A lot of people make the Glyde sound much worse than it is. I've heard that the QWERTY keyboard is too small for some, but my fingers are still growing, so its fine for me;) The phone did take a lot of getting used to, as I had a Motorola Razr before upgrading. The phone gets very frustrating at points, as I said, sometimes it doesn't respond in the manner you would like. But overall, it isn't a terrible phone, I'm just looking for something different.
Great touch screen phone with full QWERTY keyboard! August 8, 2008 Sandra Trolinger (New Braunfels, TX USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My husband informed me I could upgrade my old Razr phone so we went to the Verizon store and I had several picked out that were possibilies. As I looked over the vast array of phones that seemed too simple, too cheaply made, too expensive, etc. and I was going back and forth between a few models I happened to pick the Glyde up as it looked interesting and caught my attention. I loved the heftiness and the firm slide mechanism and it felt good in my hands! I do a lot of texting and the keyboard definitely caught my attention and the touch screen was a bonus I didn't expect. For such an integrated phone I was happy with the low price and after checking out the Voyager (which seemed flimsy) and the Dare (which had only a virtual keyboard and was much higher in price) I came back to the Glyde and told my husband I wanted it. I brought it home and it has been fun to use for the whole family. It is very easy to use and YES it does have a problem with the touch screen at times as it may not respond to the first or second contact. The rep told me there is a new upgrade to download at the main Verizon stores so we will be getting that done soon. I am very happy with the phone and feel a tiny bit guilty for splurging but I know I will have it for over 2 years so it works out to less than $8 per month to own it not including the monthly bill.
Excellent features, questionable reliability. July 27, 2008 C. Haste (Indiana, USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I am currently on my second Samsung Glyde. The phone has excellent features, but the touch screen is questionable at best. My first phone was less than a month old when the touch screen started registering taps on it's own to the point that the phone was unusable. The screen would often only register taps at the bottom of the screen, regardless of where I actually tapped. Eventually, sitting on the table by itself, it would register taps, navigate menus, and even occasionally make calls, all without being touched. I couldn't read or send text messages, or even make or receive calls, because these "phantom taps" would navigate the phone away from whatever I tried to do. Having said that, my replacement Glyde has thus far worked as it should, and I am once again enjoying the good points of this phone, the html browser, QWERTY keyboard, and the excellent definition of the 2.8" screen. If the "phantom taps" should return, I will update this review, in the hopes that it will help some other poor soul from enduring a most frustrating problem.
