Fantastic for Elementary Classrooms! May 16, 2008 N. Cowan (California) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I teach a class of very active first grade students. To enrich our studies of insects, I ordered the Ant Gel Habitat for the classroom. The kids and I were absolutely amazed by just watching the ants tunnel through the gel. More importantly, there is absolutely no maintenance...the gel is their food and water as well as their habitat. The gel tunnels did not collapse as sand will in a traditional ant farm. I will definitely order this product again!
Excellent! March 13, 2008 Mom Doerksen (Kansas, USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
My kids are really enjoying this ant farm. It's been two weeks now, and the ants are still doing fine. One great feature is that you don't have to feed them or add any water; they eat the gel that they're digging in (although not enough so you would notice).
It's not just a toy! January 14, 2008 Vivian Ruehlman 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is an interesting item. I didn't know what to expect when I registered this for my son and I thought we would deal with it if he really gets it on Christmas, well, he did. Come to realize that this is not a toy, this is a great item for anyone (not just kids) who are interested in observing things, you can actually look at the ants for a long time watching them working in there. It's amazing, we all love it.
Ant Gel House January 12, 2008 Terry A. Christensen (Richland, WA United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I got this for my 9 year old Grandson and he just LOVES watching the ants in it; a different kind of ant house but a good one! Thanks!
Very Interesting October 5, 2007 L. hauger (middle of nowhere) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is a very interesting ant farm. Watch the ants dig out gel instead of dirt. The gel makes it stronger, and the tunnels will not cave in. Not only is the gel their home, its also their food and water!! So you don't have to worry about adding anything to the farm. One down fall would be after a few weeks the plastic farm gets dirty. The ants waste builds up and smears all over the top of the tunnels, and sticks to the sides of the farm. Also the used up gel that they bring to the top gets near overflowimg and there isnt any room left for more, so they may get lazy after a while. But all in all I would say...if you like any farms, go for it! Because you can wash it out, let it dry and save it. You can also add more ants after the first set died, but you can't destroy the old tunnels, so the new ones just build onto the old ones.
