DOA, twice November 9, 2008 Plein Jane (new england) I purchased this item at a hardware store. I filled it with the recommended butane product, but it would not light. I returned it and got another one, which was defective on the other end and could not be filled. This is not all that inexpensive of a torch set, so I returned it again for a refund. I subsequently purchased the Blazer torch for silver soldering, which uses the much better triple-filtered butane fuel. Your torch will last a lot longer and won't turn itself into a flame thrower, which is what happened with my other Bernzomatic mini torch. I wouldn't recommend this product.
Pretty awesome mini torch August 4, 2008 Austin Smith (San Diego, California) I bought this particular model at a home improvment store. I was very excited to try it out and found it worked better than any high amp electrical model I have used. The torch melts aluminu as well as shatters glass. I use it to wire batterys and it heats up in about 30 seconds and melts the solder immediately on contact, saving me alot of time. br / br /You may be wondering why I gave it a 3 out of 5 at this point. As I used it more and more (which was everyday) for about a month. I noticed its flame slowly die down more and more, rendering the 1,2, and 3 settings inadequate to heat anything, however when I first bought it setting 4 was over kill in all my applications. I ending up having it on High all the time untill that was almost not hot enough to melt my solder in an effecient manner. Well instead of simply taking it apart and adjusting the flow valve I decided to unscrew just about every part I could find and put it back together and it shot a flame out about 2 feet. br / br /Needless it worked so well when it was functiong that I am going to buy another one and just hope it doesn't die like this one did.
Very Handy May 31, 2008 S. Powell I bought this torch for use as a soldering iron and have found it very useful. It's nice to have a completely cordless soldering iron and it gets hot very quickly. I haven't had a chance to use it just in its capacity as a torch, but I have used the heat-gun attachment on some shrinkwrap and it worked just as expected. So far I've only found one drawback of the device when it's being used as a soldering iron: there's a small port on the side that shoots out hot air (for exhaust, I believe). You have to be careful how you hold it so you don't accidentally burn or melt things.
