Bought 2 both lasted 3 years October 6, 2008 David Johnson (Charlotte NC) Bought two of these for a 4900 sq ft house. Split the house, one for master bath and other bed rooms, other for kitchen and utility area. They worked well but only lasted about 3 years. Forget trying to get service from the factory, it is a joke. Located in Miami, if someone does answer the phone, you better speak Spanish. Building a new home now but i think I will go with a more reputable brand at a higher cost.
Titan tankless water heater "beware" December 17, 2007 Richard L. Hollen 9 out of 12 found this review helpful
I purchased my first Titan about three years ago, hooked it up and turned the power on. Smoke came out of it. I called "Niagara" the maker of the Titan. Was very tedious, hard to find an English speaking person. After several calls I spoke with a technician who told me to send it back. The new one I recieved worked, but the temperature fluctuated. So I hooked it up to feed a small 10 gallon water heater. This smoothed out the temperature changes but defeats the purpose of tankless. But I had endless hot water that didn't fluctuate, and I wasn't storing 40 gallons of hot water. br /Yesterday the unit stopped making hot water, all the lights are on but no hot water. Reading some other reviews it seems that's the life span of this model. I wouldn't suggest buying the Titan. The company is hard to deal with, hard to reach, defensive, and seems like it's somebody's garage buisness. br / br /But the trick of hooking the unit up to a small tank, seems to work well and should work for all tankless water heaters to smooth out the temperature.
Excellent, economical tankless water heater August 21, 2007 M. Ruge (Western New York, USA) 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
I bought the Titan SCR2 last year on eBay, from a reputible seller, for our small cottage and have no regrets. For our needs, this unit was so economical that I'm pretty sure the money we saved on our electric bill has just about paid for the unit in one year. Our cottage includes a kitchen, bathroom and laundry room and we never run out of hot water. Additionally, after having the electrician install the electric service needed for the unit I was able to install (the plumbing part of it) myself with the detailed instructions that are included. I can't say enough about this water heater. Also, the warrenty is great as the company that manufatures the unit completely stands by their product. Because I bought it on eBay, I also contacted the manufacturer directly in Florida and they explained to me that if the unit quits working and it's still under warrenty they will repair /replace it at no cost and if by chance the warrenty expires and then the unit quits working, you just send the unit to them along with a check for $50 and they will repair/replace it and send it back to you. You really can't beat that, considering a plumber (who probably wouldn't be able to fix it anyway) would cost a heck of a lot more than $50. So I highly recommend this water heater...I am also going to purchase another unit for our home. Now keep in mind, if you have a large house or there are more than 2 of you in your household, this might not be the unit for you, you might want to upgrade to the next model because this unit isn't going to perform as well if you are running a dishwash or doing dishes and your child is taking a shower while another person is running hot water in another bathroom. Oh and we live in NY state near Buffalo, so we have pretty cold winters and the water heater still works great.
Not for large families July 20, 2007 D. Fischer 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
We bought this heater and it does what it is supposed to do, but there are only two of us. I think if you have a large house or large family you would either need a larger unit or possibly two units. We never run out of hot water but there isn't a lot of volume. My husband installed it himself no problem but he is very handy.
CHANGED MY LIFE!!! March 29, 2007 DENNIS O'BRIEN II (Epsom, NH) 22 out of 22 found this review helpful
I use two of these (single 3/4" line split into both units, then back to single 3/4" line out) as I live in the northeast and have a family of 8. With all three showers (low flow heads), the clothes washer, dishwasher, and the kitchen sink (can't forget the kitchen sink!) going, I had hot water. The units are set to just below medium. My electric use dropped 30% from the 40gal electric unit I had that only gave us about 10 minutes of hot water and we couldn't use multiple showers at the same time. I have had these units since 7/06. I did not have to adjust the temp during the winter. I am very satisfied.
