Amazon.com Product Review High-volume low-pressure (HVLP) systems like the HV3500 work best in situations where you're applying a fine finish as opposed to a heavy coat of paint or varnish. In other words, you wouldn't want to use a system like this to paint your house-it would take forever. If you're working on smaller projects involving stains, polyurethane, or even thinned latex paints, however, HVLP is the way to go.With HVLP systems, turbine size plays a big role in determining how fine your paint mist will be. The HV3500 includes the HV3000 turbine, which gives you enough power (65 CFM/6 PSI) to deliver a fine mist and to allow you to get a heavier coat if necessary. The professional-grade spray gun is well-balanced and comfortable to use, and it can be attached to the hose at the rear or the bottom, depending on your preference. I had some trouble with running stain on practice runs, but soon got a feel for the best combination of air flow, movement, air-cap setting and proximity to the surface to get a nice, fine finish. This is a quality product from a respected manufacturer, and is a great option for providing fine finishes on smaller projects.--Josh Dettweiler What's in the Box Turbine, gun, 25-foot air hose, stub hose and quick-connect fitting, wrench, viscosity stick, cleaning brush

problems with flow control knob July 25, 2007 Sam Aida (saugatuck, MI United States) I've used this unit for several months and dozens of times and have had good results with the exception of the material adjustment knob. Like other reviewers I too have had trouble threading it after cleaning, and once attached, there have been times I've been unable to turn it without the use of pliers. Given how frequently you use this knob it is really frustrating and a pain in the neck...I would not purchase this gun again.
Outstanding Product July 22, 2007 Frank J. Walter (Glenside, PA USA) Bought this sprayer for an upcoming project and couldn't resist trying it on the inside of a double garage door. I finished in 20 minutes. Even if you take into account the hour it took to clean the unit it's much faster than brushing a door of that size. I had no problems with the controls (air and material flow). I shot a half gallon of S-W Superpaint cut with 4 ounces of Floetrol and 2 of water, stired with a drill mounted paddle. The finish was like glass. When operating this unit wear a respirator and ear protection. The three stage turbine noise could be mistaken for a jumbo jet awaiting takeoff. This sprayer is worth every nickel.
It takes some learning July 16, 2007 G. Henline (TN USA) While I really enjoy having this machine, it has really taken some learning to get it where it was painting without problems. What it came down to was getting the paint at the right thickness. To thick and it sprayed globs, to thin and it ran everywhere. Now that I have got that down, things I am spraying are starting to look very nice.
A "Best Buy" June 11, 2007 J. Bahlmann (Big Sky Country) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Excellent outfit with a 5 yr warranty at a price you can't beat. Down side a poor manual and some plastic parts on the gun, which is with a few exceptions an Apollo 5000 series. The plastic parts can be replaced with Apollo parts, I ordered an alloy flow adjuster and stainless trigger pin with screws from Advanced Machinery for much less than the plastic parts from CH. They also have a manual to download that is much better than the CH one. I also needed a larger tip/needle and air cap, the best deal I found was at McFeely's, .75mm, 2.0mm and larger air cap in a case. For an excellent comparison test of this unit with 4 major brands check out "Tools of the trade" tool tests under pneumatic tools. I would have put URL's in but that's against the rules,so Google them!
CH HV3500 Review May 7, 2007 Ken Coulson (Liberty Lake, WA USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Sprayer worked very well spraying urethane. Did project finishing several wood doors and their frames. Tried using a Wagner sprayer originally, it's a joke in comparison. The only problem was the spray gun was missing a small internal part. It took a week to get the part. Seems like CH should have overnighted the part to me... They were nice about it, it just took too long in my opinion.
