5 out of 5 stars Programmable Thermostat Review   November 23, 2008

This is a great product. It was very easy to install for a novice like me and it is working perfectly.

5 out of 5 stars Works wonderful   November 19, 2008
Robert C. Green (Austin, TX USA)
The TX500 works wonderfully. I preformed the installation myself, basically removing the old one, transferring the wires one by one, from the marked terminal of the old one, to the same marking terminal of the new one. Programming the system was easy, and I enjoy that you can take the unit off the wall to do so without having to unscrew anything, etc. Once I programmed it about 2 months ago I've hardly done anything to it since. The small display may bother some people, but all it displays is the day, time, and temperature. Of these all most people are worried about is the temp, and if you want you can glance at it to read it, but mostly I never look at it, because it keeps the inside temperature just find. On the other hand the small display uses very little electricity, which means changing the 2 AA batteries in the unit that much less, which I don't mind at all. Overall a great product. I picked it up because consumer reports rated it so high, and I agree with their rating.

The thermostat was perfect. I thought it was my heating system, which could have cost a fortune to fix. Instead it was just the thermostat, the picture you provided helped to chose the right one. Thank You

1 out of 5 stars Ours stopped working after 8 years   October 6, 2008

This worked fine for us for a number of years, although I've never liked the weekday/weekend programming. If you're ever home sick or for a holiday, or anything outside your normal schedule, it's a pain to tell it that you're home and yes it really should heat the house. br / br /But now that it's about eight years old, it just decided to stop turning on our furnace. The display registers the correct actual and target temperatures, but even if they are several degrees apart, the furnace will not turn on. If we remove it from the wall and replace it (as if to change the batteries), then the furnace finally kicks on. Today, even that stopped helping - I've replaced it on the wall to no avail - no heat! I'm freezing here while waiting for my new Honeywell thermostat to arrive.

This thermostat is great. Simple to use. Works well. Great price. Recommended by Consumer Reports. br / br /Glad I replaced my old thermostat with this one. I even installed it myself, and with little difficulty. br / br /Good buy.
