I've been using this square for about two weeks, as a backup to the plastic one I bought years ago and frequently lose. It's been totally solid. I can point to two annoying characteristics: (1) the surfaces are a little rough, and that's fine. I don't think it's meant for fine work, and it's not a problem unless you need surgical precision. (2) Being made of aluminum, this thing gets burning hot in the sun. I've had to dowse it in cold water more than once while working just to make it usable. I'm giving it five stars since my gripes appear to have very little to do with this model; they're about aluminum squares in general.
This square is not on the level. July 13, 2006 L. Wheeler 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
If you plan on doing any serious carpentry, pass on this. The notches are aligned differently on both sides and measurements would only be approximate. At the current Amazon sale price (the second star), it would make a nice gift for your pre-teen child. Otherwise, don't bother.
