Normally, you'd have a fight on your hands with regular detents because of that annoying tendency saws have to snap into the detent when you get too close. But built into the cam lock miter handle is a detent override, and you can cut as close to a detent as you need to without slipping in. It miters from 0 to 50 degrees both right and left, and of course, there are the 11 positive stops you expect, and all dead-on accurate. The cam lever is a great improvement over the turnscrew knob on the miter arm, too.p The tall sliding fence has a machined support that promises nothing but the ultimate accuracy. We like the extra height because it supports crown molding beautifully, even up to 6-5/8 inches nested and base molding up to 6-1/2 inches vertically. Need a bevel cut? The fence slides neatly out of the way for bevels, anywhere from 0 to 48 degrees both left and right. (If you're in the market for this much power but just a single bevel, check out the DeWalt 715 saw. If you want all this, a bag of chips and a slider, step up to the DW718.) There are absolutely no complaints from this motor no matter what you're cross-cutting, as it's drawing a beefy 15 amps and has a max rpm of 3,600, slicing through 2-by oak like it's paper. What we found impressive is the saw's ability to crosscut a 2-by-10 just by adding an auxiliary base to bring the stock up to level with the back fence. p If portability is a factor, there are few saws that rival this one, we think: It's just 44 pounds despite its brawny power, and a smart designer incorporated easy-on-the-body handles into the base that offer a nice, wide, secure grip. Though it's well-enough suited to the home workshop, this saw is at home at the jobsite.I--Kris Jensen-Van Heste/I

awesome cuts! September 19, 2008 M. Williams (Philly, PA) I got this saw for about $370 (free ship) +free palm sander....great deal and both tools are great. For the novice user, you can save $ by buying a "non-compound" saw since crown molding can be cut in a vertical position without compound cut. Wish someone told me, could have saved more, but it's awesome if you need the feature.
dewalt saw August 18, 2008 Kevin Marchetti Renaissance Man Inc. Nice saw - so far so good, I hope it last as long as my single bevel chop saw...
Great saw even for a non-professional August 10, 2008 History Professor Even though I was just using this to put a floor in my sunroom (and don't have much skill with power tools or carpentry), I thought the saw was easy to use, safe, and accurate. I found it worthwhile to buy a good quality saw, as it appears the Dewalt will continue to perform for many years to come.
I'm going to try again, will give it another chnce July 19, 2008 Hotdog2121 (O' Fallon,MO) 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
After purchasing and then returning a Hitachi 12" dual bevel saw that had quality issues purchased from Lowe's (I wrote a review for that saw), I decided to purchase the DeWalt DW716 from Lowes. I really liked the DW716. Easy set up and accurate. I'm in the middle of installing crown and larger baseboards in every room in my house. After making three cuts, this saw just quit. Nothing, nada. The owners manual troubleshooting section states nothing of an overload or reset on this saw. It says to check that the power cord is plugged in (check) and check that the C.B. or fuse is not tripped (check). The 20 Amp circuit was fine (120 Volts measured). I went ahead and ate lunch, came back still nothing. Probably a bad switch or loose connection. I took the saw back and ordered a Bosch 4212L. Fast shipment from Amazon. I immediately fell in love with the Bosch saw. Short lived love affair, I discovered this saw was broken at the locking pin that holds the saw head assembly right out of the box. The pot metal had chipped in the area where the pin extends and the pin would keep slipping allowing the saw handle to move up. After talking to a Bosch factory rep. he said this is a total disassembly of the saw. This saw was probably a returned saw. One of the bags containing parts had been stapled back together. All other bags were like they were factory sealed. I am currently in the process of returning the Bosch saw back to Amazon.com for a refund. So far Amazon's return process has been excellent. Tomorrow, I will go back to Lowe's and purchase a second Dewalt DW716. I would try another Bosch from Amazon but I don't have the time to sit around and wait. The same thing could happen. I did like the features of that first DW716 and I figure it could have just been one of those things. That DeWalt has straight forward adjustments for the blade tuning. It's probably just my current situation, but I have run into many quality issues across the spectrum from many brands recently. I'm getting paranoid. I now know that Hitachi is having quality issues for sure (Made in China). The Bosch was (Made in Taiwan) the DeWalt at least is North America (Made in Mexico). Maybe we need to get some of this work back. Sorry, I'm venting.
Very nice saw July 17, 2008 J. DeBriyn (Wisconsin, USA) This saw is great. I'm still getting used to all the features as I am used to using a much simpler saw. I have build quite a few shelves so far and will be doing flooring soon. Great saw and the stock blade isn't half bad either. I find that aligning the cut with the blade is perfect and I won't be buying the laser attachment.
