2 out of 5 stars Warning!   September 3, 2008

While the steel post itself is a great post, the pre-drilled holes DO NOT match the mailbox that it is pair/sold with. Further, the bolts that come with it to attach to the mailbox are too big for the mail box. Unless you want to pay extra for someone to re-drill the holes in the box to match the post, BUY SOMETHING MADE IN JAPAN INSTEAD! AMERICANS CLEARLY CAN'T COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY ENOUGH TO BUILD A MAILBOX AND POST!

We put this up at our medical office. It seems to be sturdy and was easy to install . . . just needed some concrete.

5 out of 5 stars Oasis Mailbox Post - "garbage" sold by Home Depot   June 10, 2008

If you buy an Architectural Mailboxes post, then buy only the 4 inch square post which has the heavy steel plate mounting plate welded to the post. Amazon sells it for a great price. br / br /The Architectural Mailboxes post sold by Home Depot is a piece of garbage. It is 3 inches round with a light weight mounting plate that attaches to the post with 4 bolts. When I bought it from Home Depot last weekend, I did not realize that this was a sub-standard product sold only to Home Depot. (I know, I know...I should have my head examined for going to Home Depot) br / br /The standard Architectural Mailboxes post is 4 inches square with a heavy steel mounting plate that is welded to the post. The round post is not even shown on the Architectural Mailboxes website. br / br /I spent several hours and 160 pounds of concrete and rebar installing the Home Depot post, only to find that when you pull the handle to open the mailbox, the mailbox vibrates back and forth like a tuning fork, although the post itself is rigid. It's the lightweight mounting plate that is at fault...very poorly designed. br / br /Next weekend, I'll be digging out this post and replacing it with the solid one sold by Amazon. I called Architectural Mailboxes only to find that they are "redesigning" the Home Depot post...basically, if you are not satisfied, too bad. Architectural Mailboxes is not helping their brand by selling a sub-standard product through Home Depot.

5 out of 5 stars Oasis mailbox post   January 5, 2008

This is an very beefy, high quality post! The base has the holes pre-drilled and included are the 4 large bolts/nuts plus 8 washers to attach an Oasis mailbox. I used some of my own lock washers too for some extra insurance against them somehow working loose. br / br /The post is hollow and square so I poured the concrete first then pushed it into the hole about 20" so that concrete would be forced up into it and put the mailbox at the right height when mounted. That worked very well and I did not have to brace it while the concrete set. br / br /One minor negative was the packaging for shipment. While the flat plate at the top was protected in heavy cardboard and the post was inside a plastic bag, there was no packing materiel in the box so the post came through it at both ends (without being damaged though). br / br /A possible negative is the design of using bolts to attach post and mailbox which leaves either the bolt heads or nuts exposed (depending on which way you connect it). I am paranoid enough to wonder if someone could easily unbolt the mailbox and walk off with it. I found that with access to only one end the bolt would spin rather than unthread after the lock washer lost its grip. Good news, but a prepared thief could handle that too if willing to make the effort.

Bought this with the mailbox. UPS shredded the cardboard box during delivery, but the post was just fine. Easy to install (with lots of concrete as an earlier person noted) looks good with the mailbox. Recommended.
