My favorite bike rack. October 27, 2008 Scotty (Kansas City, MO) a href="http://www.amazon.com/review/R2LGTUHJANS485"Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2LGTUHJANS485/a I've owned and used many different style bike racks in the past. I highly, highly recommend this bike rack! br / br /PROS: br /+folds up quickly and can compactly stay mounted behind your car br /+extremely sturdy br /+almost zero sway (a tiny bit between hitch and bike rack) br /+bikes don't move at all when driving at high speeds br /+very adjustable br /+sufficient clearance that bikes don't scrape car br /+very affordable br / br /CONS: br /-maybe don't pinch your fingers..? :-) br /-this 1.25" model can only hold 2 bikes -- no adapters to upgrade to 4 bikes. br / br /I'm using this on a 2003 Honda Accord with a 1.25" Draw-Tite hitch receiver that I bought from etrailer.com. (Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch and Reese are all made by the same parent company!) br / br /FYI- I believe Amazon has the wrong manufacturer part number (MFG P/N) listed for this item as of October 2008. The Swagman bike rack that Amazon is selling here is actually MFG P/N 64625... it only fits on a 1.25" hitch receiver. I just bought it, so I'm sure. It's not to be confused with MFG P/N 64670 (fits BOTH 1.25" and 2" hitch receivers but has different design) or MFG P/N 64650 (fits 2" hitch receivers only). br / br /Again, this bike rack is the model that ONLY work on 1.25" hitch receivers.
Very solid and well constructed October 3, 2008 Jack R. Mccollum We needed a sturdy bike carrier to take our daughter's cruiser to college. This unit fit perfectly to the back of our Volvo and I never the saw the bike move on the 150 mile trip. I was afraid that I would need some kind of extension since my receiver is under the bumper but it came with an extension that keeps the bike away from the bodywork.
Great Product! September 22, 2008 Mary Dolan (Naples, Florida) I did a lot of research and checked out many brands at bike shops. Some of the designs were out and out convaluted. br /I was amazed at the quality and sturdiness of this product which costs around $100 less than other very popular brands. br /You overdelivered on quality at a phenomenal price and did not charge for shipping. Excellent marketing tactic. I can highly recommend your product. Top marks from me. Superb product at an excellent price. br /
Nice rack August 26, 2008 SCC (Ohio, USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased the Swagman XC bike rack to hitch mount on a Toyota Prius. The rack arrived requiring only a few minutes of tool-free assembly. The 1.25 inch bar inserted into the hitch receiver without difficulty, and was pegged securely in place with the included hitch pin. The rack adjusted easily to accomodate one standard and one 29" mountain bike, though a slight modification was needed to mount the 29" bike [It is so big that I had to file a few grooves into the vertical post to which the hold-down hooks mount to increase their range of travel on the vertical bar of the rack. This took about 5 minutes and permanently solved the problem]. The bikes are far enough from the bumper to eliminate any anxiety about scratching the paint when the bikes are placed on or off the rack. The bikes lock down easily and securely in the wheel holders with the hold-down hooks. The rack holds the bikes in a much more stable manner than racks which hold the bike by the upper frame tube, and this rack will accomodate any bike without adjustment, whether the upper tube is horizontal, or slanted. When not in use, the rack folds up quickly to fit in a truck or on the back seat. All-in-all, this rack exceeded my expectations. Knowing what I know now, I would buy it again without hesitation.
