I liked it. November 30, 2008 Careful Consumer (Edenton, NC) Unlike a number of other reviewers, I did not feel the need to try to reinforce this carrier: I felt the design made it sufficiently rigid to perform it's task. We used it to travel 7 hours each way for our maiden voyage, and it worked just fine, holding a wheel chair and a bunch of luggage. Only noticed slight wind noise beginning at about 65 mph, and minor loss of mileage efficiency at the higher speeds. br /Looked at lots of products online. Only the low-end Thule seemed to come close in value for a utility product, and the reviews for those all talked about limited moisture penetration, whereas nobody seemed to have any problems with this unit, and the price is so much better. br /It's a really big box. Assembly was slightly annoying, and tightening the U-bolts on the hinge side requires a long reach. But I'm very pleased with the product. I gave it five stars because it's done exactly what I needed it to do, and the price was right. An excellent value.
Explorer B Sport Rack November 6, 2008 Andrew Pecora 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Highly recommended...and made in USA. Arrived in 2 days, much earlier tahn expected. Light and fairly easy to assemble. Requres 2 people for a few steps. Works great atop our 2004 Totota 4-Runner. We've already used in twice for two 700 mile road trips and it freed up a ton of room in the vehicle so we can comfortably fit all our kids. It holds 4 medium size suit cases nicely. Thanks.
Beware of wind October 28, 2008 Dewey Bohannon 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Product was great on our trip West from Arkansas, thru Kansas and on to Denver. The constant wind from the south did not bother it at all. However, on our return trip we went south from Denver to I40 and the carrier didn't last very long. The difference was the wind was now blowing on the lockable side instead of the hinged side. The latches would not hold no matter what I did. The box was soon trashed. I advise anyone using this item to secure it with extra straps. I wish I'd known this ahead of time. It turned out to be an expensive item since I was only able to use it for about 70% of my trip, and now it's gone. The u-bolts fit perfectly on our Sequoia rack but it needed additional straps across the frame. I bought straps in New Mexico but it was to late. I hope you have better luck.
spacious, strong would recommend it October 24, 2008 C. HOU (Boston,MA) The product came dissembled. Putting top and bottom together required two people's efforts. Installation instruction is not as easy to read as Ikea's instruction but still understandable. Putting it on the rooftop might require a ladder and two persons(it depends on height of the person installs and the car). we had difficulties putting one of the U-bolt in but it got in after bending it a little. The whole process of putting it together is not that overwhelming. The cargo is spacious, it's long enough to hold 2 golf bags and 4 sleeping bag.(it can hold 3 golf bags) it stayed stably on total of 8 hours state highway drive. it does not cause too much noise and shocking to the car the whole trip. loading and unloading is pretty easy.It has most reasonable prices among hard shell cargos. I would recommend it to my friends.
You get what you pay for. October 21, 2008 Slackmasterp (Santa Rosa, CA USA) Great price but the product I received was flimsy when in the open position. The cover would not stay open. Assembly required. Maybe it was just a defective product. I decided to repair my sportrack elite xl instead. For about $200, the elite xl is a much better buy. I guess you get what you pay for.
