Assembly instructions as well as operating instructions were almost useless something was lost in the translation... The workmanship was of good quality also the fit and finish were as well. This unit is not for the Toyota FJ Cruiser as you only are able to open the rear door less than half way even with the fold down feature enabled making the loading of large dogs with the unit attached a difficult task.
Ok for the price! August 6, 2008 J. Hathaway (Lititz, PA United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This rack installs very quickly with minimal tools and it does hold (2) bikes as described...however, the use of velcro straps to anchor the bikes is a joke! You will need some rope or cords for added security. My real problem with this bike rack is the way the rack's bike holders slide forward back on the bar...this causes the two bikes to damage each other in transit. I resolved this issue by drilling holes into the bars and placing self-tapping screws to keep the bike holders from sliding. I should've bought a Thule
Can't beat the value July 18, 2008 J. Ballen (Bay Area, CA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I keep trying to find a reason why I should go buy the Thule or Yakima hitch-mounted rack...but I just do not believe that they are worth the ~$120 more than this rack costs. br / br /We used the hitchbiker 2 up through the mountains of California on a week-long trip. The rack was really stable and the bikes never moved. br / br /In my opinion, there are only 2 significant differences between this one and the more expensive versions. br /-The "fork" on the Bell does not fold down when not in use. This isn't really a big deal for me, but should be noted. br /-The velcro hold-downs on the Bell aren't the greatest. The Yakima or Thule rubber straps are much more secure. This is cured by using a bungee cord around the bikes and through the lock-hole of the rack...and you're done. So a pretty simple solution, but also good to know before buying. br / br /Besides those things, I have no complaints. I am using it with a 2" receiver, and Bell provides a 1.25" 2" "C" adapter, and I found it to be really snug and secure. I had zero wobble, which was something I have seen in the other racks. It folds down just like the others do. br / br /Even if something were to break down the line and I had to buy another, it would be still be less money out of pocket than buying just one of the alternatives. br / br /
Bell Hitchbiker 2-bike hitch mount rack April 28, 2008 E. Little (NH, SA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Pros: br /-Easy to assemble. br /-Strong and well built br /-Light weight br /-Great value br / br /Cons: br /-Need extra bungee cord to secure bikes br /-Hitch pin is threaded so I need to carry a wrench to remove/install (I don't keep the rack on the car all the time) br /-Rack sways at highway speeds br / br /Overall: br /Like it a lot. Wanted a simple 2 bike rack and this delivered. Just need to do a little extra to make sure everything is secured the way I like it (extra bungee cord, adding rubber washers to the tilt pin will firm up the rack and stop the swaying).
Car bike rack February 28, 2008 Edward Kampsen (Rocklin, CA United States) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Received 2 bike rack quickly and in excellent condition. br /Installed on car smoothly and bike mounts very well. br /Only weak link is the velcro bike tie downs probably will br /not hold up well in the weather.
