5 out of 5 stars No problems - big arms   June 27, 2008
Im not sure what all these people are talking about with "hard to setup this and that". The directions were simple and I put it together and was using it within 30 minutes. I dont/havent gotten any tools so this unit is not together right, however the bolts and everything still holds under my weight (178 lbs). Soild unit, Im impressed.

4 out of 5 stars Does good job with chin up   June 21, 2008
This product does a great job with chin up exercise, but it doesn't do well with situp like it advertised at all. I have carpeted floor, which is not firm enough for the bar to leverage against during situp. I haven't try it on a hard floor to see if it work there or not, but I doubt it will. The bar is strong and sturdy once all screw is in place and tighten. The bar does need to have a doorframe header to work properly, I would not just depend on the leverage wood bar and its sandpaper to hold by itself. The bar size is not adjustable, so it will only fit certain size doorway only. The soft grip is nice and comfort as well. Overall it does chin up bar function really well without having to screw the doorframe, but does not work with doing situp.

3 out of 5 stars Faulty mounting   June 12, 2008

I did some research on pull-up bars through other customer reviews, and the Everlast bar had the fewest negative reviews (that's not saying much). Many of the negative customer reviews on Everlast were because the customers had old doorways and the bar didn't work for them. I live in a new house, so I figured that I wouldn't have a problem with the door size.

The pull-up bar was straightforward to assemble, but I must admit that I spent awhile trying to figure out how it was mounted on the doorway. After looking at the picture and trying out different ways of mounting the bar, I finally realized that the bar just mounted on the doorframe, and had nothing to do with the door itself. The reason it took so long for me to figure that out was that it doesn't look safe or secure. There's a tiny sand-paper-like band on the wooden bracket that's supposed to hold it in place on one side of the doorframe, but that's a joke. I only weigh 165 pounds, and after three normal pullups, the whole contraption fell, and me with it. Most of the sand-paper tape came off the wooden bracket, showing how precarious the whole doorframe mounting idea was in the first place.

I'll just have to find a way to mount this thing on the wall, the doorway frame mounting idea is a joke!

4 out of 5 stars Does what it's supposed to   June 9, 2008

Fundamentally this product does what its supposed to. I had read several negative comments about the assembly; while the instructions are not crystal clear it was reasonably straightforward. An improvement might be to include wrenches but pliars and a socket set put it together fine.

As stated it works on most door frames. I have one doorway in my house that is too wide for the bar so measure before you buy.

I was a little tentative on the first use but it holds my weight (210 lbs) no problem. In my mind it is the solution I was looking for.

The only real negative is that it has marked my door frame (as mentioned by other reviewers). It 'dented' the wood and scraped some paint off during the first use. Since then I always put some extra cushioning, like a towel, behind the contact points on the front side and it seems fine. It's a little extra hassle but nothing that upsets me too much. My advice is to add some extra cushioning in visible contact points.

1 out of 5 stars Don't like it at all.   June 4, 2008

I put it together per the instructions and I actually fell when the bar came loose from the door frame. I put it back the way it is supposed to go and to no avail I fell again and got hurt...again. Ultimately I put one thick sandal on each side against the frame of the door to give the block of wood (from the chin up bar) above the door frame less space to come away from the frame if I rocked too much. Overall I would not recommend this to anyone. Horrible item.
