1 out of 5 stars unsettling sex scenes   December 1, 2008
R. Andre (Upstate, NY)
I've read over a hundred vampire romance novels and honestly I think this is the worst I've ever read. It crosses the line from sexy SM sex scenes to uncomfortable sexist submission scenes. The characters were not likeable at all, I felt no respect or like for the main characters and the plot left much to be desired. The author listed character traits in several spots in the novel, but the characters themselves didn't show they had those traits through their thoughts/actions/speech. Worse than Laurel Hamilton's worst. Her sex scenes don't make me feel uncomfortable, these did.

3 out of 5 stars Where is the story?   November 16, 2008

This was the first book I read from the "others" series, not knowing it was actually the last. Well I loved the characters, very fun and very sexy. The book had amazing, mind blowing sex scenes. Well I got to the end of the book asking myself where the book went to. All I could remember was them locked in the bedroom throughout the whole thing. I enjoyed the book but now that i have read all of the other books in the series I'm wondering, what was she thinking? This book is nothing like the rest. I really enjoyed this book though and I'm hoping for the next book she elaborates on these characters. So all and all read the whole series it is good and even though this book lacks a plot it is a great read if you like sex scenes and hopefully the next one is as good as the ones before this.

1 out of 5 stars Awful attempt at a XXX book   November 5, 2008

I read a lot, and this has to be one of the worst books I've ever read. I've read the rest of the series multiple times - those books are great. I was so looking forward to this one, and was incredibly disappointed. The lead female character wants to be dominated and punished, picks up a strange vampire in a bar and falls in love for no apparent reason. The sex is creepy because he can make her do things with his mind-control. Everyone knows a vampires mate is supposed to be immune to mind-control, at least I prefer the Lynsay Sands version. I think she was trying to write a more risque book, but it's missing all the humor, plot, suspense and interesting side stories and continued stories of the rest of the series. I finally finished it but am very glad I got it from the library. Do NOT waste your money.

3 out of 5 stars not as good as previous books in the series   November 1, 2008

Though I enjoy her work...this book left something to be desired when I was finished. I read romance novels for the romance but it seemed as though the first half of this book never really left the bedroom and when it finally did the characters felt flat and the storyline rushed. I would say this was nowhere near as good as I had come to expect from this author. I hope her next book is up to par!

2 out of 5 stars Where was the story?   October 28, 2008

I would call myself a fan of Christine Warren. I have been following the series since the first one Wolf at the Door (The Others, Book 1) and will keep following it even after this one. I was disappointed. When you are still reading the same sex scene 60 pages later you have to know that the book doesn't have much more substance than that. The plot just made it worse. There was a vague threat from a Vampire that is resoved quickly and with holes then there is more, you guessed it, sex! There is no story to this book and I was left feeling like I had wasted my time. Sorry, but authors (even romance authors) have to include more in a story than rolling around in a bed.
