this book is so biased October 1, 2008 Tongjie Chen 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Jesus Chris is not the no. 1? Even our dating system is based on Chris, which influences everybody on earth.
great work August 2, 2008 A. Umar (Sacramento,CA,USA) Again we have to remind ourselves,it is the most influential persons in history, the influence that changed the face of humanity.Other way to look at it:what this world would be like today, if there was no XYZ.
EITHER the title OR the list should be corrected!!! July 30, 2008 Sam (Switzerland) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
After reading the book and the reviews below, I can say the following: br / br /- a huge effort has been put to write this book, br /- it is an insightful list, br /- the list is provocative, br /- the list is very subjective, biased, skewed, and should be taken with caution. br /- the list is full of impostors such as Gutenberg (instead of Bi Sheng), Lavoisier (instead of Geber), Marconi (instead of Tesla), Euler (instead of Al-Khwarizmi), even JFK for "U.S. President who led first successful effort by humans to travel to another planet"(instead of Nikita Khrushchev who led the First Man in Space Yuri Gagarine), etc. br / br /Therefore, two solutions: br / br /1. Rename the book as: "The 100: A Ranking Of The Most Influential Persons In WESTERN History", or br /2. Gather a commission of world historians to establish an objective list. br / br /We know that "History is written by the winners" and Hart's book is just a reminder of Alex Haley's quote.
I continue to read this book over and over June 1, 2008 Ronald J. Trivane One may not agree with the order of the individuals in Michael H. Hart's list. This is expected. The most important things this book did for me was to give me biographies of important people(many of whom I never heard of) and more importantly a timeline of history. One gets a better feel of how history unfolds when reading The 100 in chronological order. I also have the 1978 edition. It's interesting to note that in the 14 years between the two editions individuals moved up or down or fell off the list. Such is the case with several Communist thinkers and leaders. After the fall of the Berlin Wall Communism has lost much of it's influence. In reality its influence lasted only about 70 years. I've kept this book in my "bathroom library" for 15 years. It gets a lot of comments from guests who peek at it during their short "visit" on the throne.

This is an eye opener about the truth, by the world renowned philosophers and historians. Excellent, everyone should read this book and know the reality.
