Product Description
Constructed around a series of late night conversations around a camp fire between Cheryl Simone and Sadhguru Vasudev on an Island in the middle of a Western North Carolina lake near her mountain home, Midnights with the Mystic is the most thorough exposition of the teachings of India's most sought after mystic. Sadhguru challenges us to embrace the possibility that to each of us is available a higher realm of reality, a peak of consciousness; an entrée into the realm of freedom and bliss. Concrete and down-to-earth, Midnights with the Mystic both provides readers with an introduction to profound spiritual teaching and a personal glimpse of a charismatic guru.

5 out of 5 stars A book that inspires you and rekindles your curiosity!   July 4, 2008
A very easy read that I breezed through in a few hours. The book does a lot of things - walks us through Cheryl's life & spiritual journey, gives us a little peek into Sadhguru, and talks about life's intriguing questions. There were points in the book where I felt overwhelmed with emotion, there were those that contained stories of Sadhguru's life which gripped me as if I was reading a magical page-turner, and there were others that inspired me to pursue my spiritual journey. Irrespective of who you are, one thing you'll experience for sure is a newly rekindled desire & curiosity to explore life's deepest mysteries.

5 out of 5 stars Must a read!   July 4, 2008

Few days back on the way back home, I stopped my bike at my friend's office to collect this book. As always, i skipped all the forewords (huh! they plant expectations/their views in you so brutally, stopping you to be naive). As the sun was setting across Puget Sound bay, i flipped through the first two chapters of Cheryl Simone's unimpressive narration.

Just to satisfy my friend, who was insisting that I read this book, I took bus to work, the next day. I thought that an hour long bus ride can help me to flip through few more chapters. I was very skeptic about what this book was going to offer (how calculative. I did not even buy it.). I was skeptic until I started to read chapter three or until Sadhguru arrives in the book or until i realized i missed my bus stop. I walked back to office reading, got on and off the elevator reading, greeting colleagues reading. I did not even check my mails ( what a sin! Forgive me, Larry Page!).

In this book, Cheryl Simone talks about the conversation she had with Jaggi Vasudev and Leela. The crystal clear words and highly logical arguments of Jaggi (Sadhguru) never fails to find its way through my mind. It stunned me many times. I could not help getting goosebumps when he describes what love is. He says "Love is not what you do, Love is what you are". It was like someone slapped on my face, painful yet joyous. It took me more than an hour, around 6 round trip in the Seattle street car, sitting in the corner seat, starring at his lines, to vaguely understand what he actually meant by these lines. Very quickly he travels to different aspects of life, dragging half-hearted us with him.

Often, I read a line many times to get what he is intended to say. After every point he made through my mind, i found myself closing my eyes and mapping the real me to what he said. The book made me evaluate my self, without me realizing that.

I wouldn't call this book as a guide to bliss. But, certainly it did open me up. It made me aware of the existence of such a great thing, such a great man. If what ever said in this book is to be believed, I think he is the friend I should pay a visit soon. I should see him and try his yoga by my self to see if it makes any sense to me. I fell like i found a friend. A friend to look up to. Gotta see if that is correct.

This book made me feel how good I am. It also hinted how better I can be.
To me this book is a good check list about our lives. I got my score. If you want yours, grab one.

PS: If there is anyone who wants to read and discuss this book, feel free to email me. Or we can even do that online.

5 out of 5 stars A Gripping Page-Turner   July 4, 2008
The author's honest skeptism and Sadhguru's unfailing practicality makes this easy read appealling to all who ponder similar questions about life. Reading of the author's ability to climb the mountains in Sadhguru's presence despite her physical limitations is amazing. My favorite anecdotes are those of Sadhguru telling jokes. Imagine being in a fast car with him behind the wheel! I highly recommend reading and sharing this book.

5 out of 5 stars About Sadhguru.....   July 4, 2008
I kept trying to find ways to describe who and what Sadhguru is. He has touched my life in the most profound ways. Through recounts of her interactions with Sadhguru, Cheryl has managed to capture some of His essence in these pages. In its simplicity, it is the perfect introduction to the Infinite. A must read for those seeking something beyond their current realm of experience.
