Amazon.com Review Charcoal grilling just got a lot easier. The Performer charcoal grill uses a gas-assist starter to light the coals, so there's no more hassling with lighter fluid or waiting for the gassy vapors to subside. Weber's Touch-N-Go gas ignition system conveniently ignites the briquettes with the push of a button. The Performer's sturdy, hinged grate offers a 22-1/2-inch-diameter cooking space-plenty of room for party burgers and steaks for all at large gatherings. Knowing that a grill ought to have as much prep space as cooking space, Weber gave the Performer an extra large prep surface. A weather-protected Char-Bin storage container keeps up to 20 pounds of charcoal nice and dry, which is an especially nice feature to have if you tend to forget things out in the rain. A removable aluminum ash catcher makes cleaning a snap. And, a heavy-duty, hinged cooking grate makes it easy to add briquettes. Crack-proof, all-weather wheels roll smoothly when it's time to move, and they lock down tight for safety. The Performer also features porcelain-enamel, rust-resistant coating; a One-Touch cleaning system; a built-in thermometer; and three hooks for hanging barbecue tools. The grill measures 50-1/4 by 40 by 28-1/2 inches assembled. i--Brian Olson/i

An outdoor kitchen at a reasonable price September 16, 2008 Jesse Grittner (Seattle, WA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Like many reviewers, I've looked at gas grills and been turned off by the flavor and their higher prices. Still, the concept of an outdoor kitchen for preparing, grilling and assembling meals was an appealing one. When I came upon this grill, it seemed like the perfect blend of convenience and performance. The grill surface itself is a lot bigger than my old 18 1/2" Weber, the work surface is extensive, and the gas ignition promised to simplify the most time-consuming and nerve-wracking part of the whole process. br / br /My wife and I bought one from Crate and Barrel this weekend and tried it out, and it worked like a charm. I made a pork tenderloin from a Bobby Flay recipe that used both a glaze and a mojo. After heating the mojo on the stovetop, I brought the saucepan outside and set it right on the Thermoset work surface. My wife was worried that I'd just ruined our brand new grill, but I picked up the saucepan and you couldn't even tell it had been there. Awesome! Even with two bowls on the tabletop, there was still plenty of room for a big cutting board and a plate, so I was able to slice the tenderloin, transfer it to the plate, and bring it to the table ready to eat. br / br /The best thing about this grill is that, because it's so easy to start and there's so much space, it makes you want to grill more and try new recipes. Kudos to Weber for a five-star, American-made product!

It's awesome, just buy it. I actually got mine from Crate and Barrels. Same price and it came in a funky green color my wife liked.
So far, so good August 20, 2008 F. Schipani 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've used the grill three times and been pretty happy with it. I've been using natural charcoal, and I'm still learning how to control the heat. It gets real hot at first and then cools down quickly. But this grill makes it possible to add more charcoal. br / br /Assembly was fairly simmple. It took me about an hour. But some words on the instruction sheets would have been helpful. I made a few mistakes and had to take things apart and redo them. br / br /Starting up the grill couldn't be simpler. Just dump in the charcoal and press the igniter button. It will be ready for grilling quickly - not quite as fast as a gas grill, but quickly enough. And the smokey flavor makes it well worth the extra few minutes.
Perfect combo August 15, 2008 K. Morgan (Bethlehem, PA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was looking at, and reviewing, gas grills for months but was so hesitant br /to spend the money because, despite the convenience and cool looks of br /a shiny stainless grill, I knew from experiences at bbq's at friends and family, that the food just tasted like it was cooked in the kitchen and br /warmed outside. I missed the charcoal flavor of my youth. br /So when I fell upon a review of the performer, I couldn't believe it. br /As soon as I saw the gas ignition, I was sold. And then the charcoal storage br /bin, lid holder, ash can, and large table really got me excited. br /I would have spent MORE than 300 for this thing. It's like I found my soulmate. br /Assembly took MAYBE 20 minutes. The fact that the instructions are br /not written is a clue to how simple it is. (Why didn't someone tell br /LV51 (Dec '07) that the casters SNAP into place? They do not fall off.) br /The ONLY drawback is that you have to wait quite a while, unlike gas grills, for the thing to cool down before putting the cover on. br /Regardless, I give this thing 6 stars. br /
This is one sweet grill! July 17, 2008 C. Batten (Rochester, NY USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am sooo so glad I bought this :) br / br /I gave this to my boyfriend as his Father's Day gift and he's been grilling with it nearly every day! br / br /Assembly was a breeze. I was able to put it together by myself in under an hour - no problems whatsoever. Very intuitive design, easy to use, cooks great - no complaints! I don't think my boyfriend will EVER go back to gas grillin' thanks to the Performer. If I could give this 10 stars I would. Best buy of the summer!!!
