1 out of 5 stars You will be disappointed with the package   June 7, 2008

Poulan is a good brand, but this particular package is very disappointing. I thought when I ordered this product the Poulan Pro 17-Inch 25cc Gas-Powered Trimmer/Brush Cutter #PP325 $159.99 that I was getting both the Poulan Pro 17-Inch 25cc Gas Powered String Trimmer #PP125 $109.99 and the Poulan Pro Brush Cutter Trimmer Attachment #PP4000C $52.50 in one package and saving $2.50 by buying them in a combination package. However this package does not contain the brush cutter trimmer attachment. Instead it only contains the brush cutter blade and head. A second lower shaft assembly with the quick connect is NOT included in this package. So you have to actually take the brush cutter blade and head off with an allen wrench and reassemble it as a string trimmer when you want to change functions. Order the two items separately and you will be much happier with what you get, because you will be able to easily switch attachments using the quick connector. (The prices I listed are the current prices at the time I ordered).

3 out of 5 stars Disappointed but still a good trimmer   December 30, 2007

I bought this thinking I would be able to quickly switch between the trimmer attachment and the brush blade. You can, but this only comes with a single attachment shaft so you have to the allen wrench and another wrench to make the switch. I was expecting two shafts, one for each attachment. br / br /Mine does not like to have the throttle above halfway. It will sputter and try to die in thick grass but quickly speeds up when I move it away for a moment. If I squeeze the throttle all the way it will die. I am constantly having to feather the throttle to keep the RPM up enough to cut effectively but not high enough to make it turn off. br / br /While it runs it does a fantastic job. The string is very easy to change and the brush cutter makes quick work of small vines and the stuff too thick for the trimmer. The is no kickback when using the brush cutter and I feel safe while cutting. br / br /I will look for a second attachment shaft so I can quickly move from trimmer to cutter without having to break out the tools and stop working.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent buy on a solid trimmer.   August 18, 2007

Purchased from Amazon.com with free shipping. Drop ships from manufacturer. Trimmer is well-assembled and has a large fuel tank. It ships with the straight-shaft trimmer mounted and the blade/blade shield neatly included. Switching to the blade head is quick enough, but you need some elbow grease and the provided wrench. The string is pre-cut, and is of odd size. The line is stiff, but not unworkable. It cuts like mad and will slice through most weeds and vines that thinner stuff won't touch. Go ahead and purchase the extra line now--it only comes with 5 pieces and one 1-gallon 40:1 mixer. br /Attaching the trimmer guard and J-handle was quick enough, but pay attention to which particular threads you are using on each of the bolts. The coarser threads are intended for the handle bracket and your own Allen wrench will come in handy. br /Initial starting was almost exactly per the instruction book, and the carb seems fairly flood-resistant. It wanted to cough at first, but let the self-locking throttle hold for 10 seconds and it will quickly come up to speed. Do not hold the throttle or over-pump the carb and pull sharply. It will reward you with quick starts. Performance is awesome at any throttle speed above one-quarter, and this Poulan really cuts well at about half throttle. The engine is tuned hot and it revs quickly with great torque, despite the flexible driveshaft. Noise supression from the unobstrusive muffler is good and heat shielding is also good. Decent throttle response and fuel economy as well, but be ready to replace the line frequently if you trim in heavy weeds or against concrete or brick. Line changes, fortunately, are fast once you get the hang of it. Overall, a great bargain at $160, especially considering the brush cutter is included. More than adequate for any large residence--highly recommended.

I have the Poulan Pro PP325 and have has good service from it. I especially like having a string trimmer and a bush cutter in one machine. The nylon string is very tough; it is an odd size but is readily availabel at TrueValue hardware stores or I get it from their web site.

1 out of 5 stars P{oulan Gas Trimmer   May 18, 2006

I bought the PPB300E Poulan Pro gas trimmer at Wal Mart for about the same price. This is a pretty good gas trimmer BUT it is almost impossible to find replacement trimmer lines for it. It takes .115 pre cut line. No one, not even the Poulan dealers, have the .115 stuff here in Texas. I had to contact Poulan and they told me that .115 line is discontinued... but they were able to find me a couple of packages of the stuff. br / br /If I had to do it again I'd buy a more common unit NOT the Poulan Pro series. br / br /Nick C
