4 out of 5 stars Goodbye Ants!   October 1, 2008
Gary Peterson (San Diego, California USA)
We're located in Southern California and we have problems with Argentine ants. They're a small brown ant that occurs in prodigious numbers. They can invade the house by the thousands. Typically they're after food items such as a small pieces of meat, fat or sweets. Sometimes they find the cats' food bowls. Sometimes they invade the bathrooms. Sprays and contact poisons do not work. Oh, they may kill thousands of ants, but the ants just keep coming and the queen is probably generating new workers as fast as you can kill them off. Using the vacuum cleaner provides a satisfying relief, but is ineffective in the long run. br / br /We have used some small plastic bait stations obtained at Home Depot and they have been reasonably effective, but they don't seem to last very long as bait stations nor do they provide long-lasting relief from the ants. The last time I went to Home Depot to get more to repel the latest ant invasion, they were out. Alas, I purchased a packet of Grant's Kills Ants Bait Stations. I have used this product in the past and found it to be unsatisfactory. br / br /I placed the Grant's Bait Stations around the invaded area and, before long, the ants were feeding on the poison. After a short while, they stopped. It seems the bait hole was covered over with some kind of light-colored granular crud and the ants could no longer get to the bait. Dismayed, I took a stiff little piece of wire and stirred the bait around a bit to make it more accessible. The ants came back. After doing this several times over the next several days the ant population was drastically reduced and then dissappeared. Evidently, the ants not only eat the poison, but take the bait back to the colony and feed it to the other ants including the queen. When the queen dies, the colony is history. Finally, the ants were gone. The bait stations were indeed effective, although it took a bit of diddling around to get the proper results. br / br /I'd regard this as a effective product, but in a poorly designed container, at least as far as Argentine ants were concerned. When I repeatedly intervened as described above, it got rid of the ants. I'd say a newly-designed container was in order. Otherwise, it's a good product. br / br /Gary Peterson

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Product - and it works   September 5, 2008

Works better than anything else I have tried. However, the same product without arsenic does not work well.
