Excellent Product July 5, 2008 This trap for chipmunks is an great product! It works very well and is a more humane way to catch and relocate pesky chipmunks than using poison to kill them. We caught 7 chipmunks in 3 days with the trap. We used peanut butter on wax paper wrapped around the food platform and it worked every time a chipmunk went in to feed. The only problem is squirrels like it too! And a squirrel will bend the door, but I was able to "unbend" the door to make it work again. I highly recommend this trap.
It does well exactly what it is supposed to do July 3, 2008 This Havahart trap works perfectly, and is more sensitive than their double door model. With a tiny bit of pecan paste bait each time, I gradually relocated 10 chipmunks to a new home several miles down the road. It works better than chipmunk "diving pools", smoke bombs and rodenticides. If you're bent on revenge, and don't want to drive, just lower the cage into water for a quick dispatch. I prefer the "relocation" program, just put the loaded cage in the trunk, drive 5-6 miles down the road, put the cage on the ground, pull the door up and let Little Chip out for a new life.
Works Very Well June 30, 2008 Great price and fast shipping! I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical when I took the trap out of the box; it seemed a bit flimsy to me. However, after catching my 4th chipmunk this morning, I am a firm believer.
It works very well (with no modifications). Some recommend peanut butter to catch chipmunks, but I have found it isn't necessary. I used about a teaspoon of peanut butter the first time, and the chipmunk got it all over the cage and him/herself. The next three times, I just placed a small pile of premium bird seed (mix of nuts and seeds) and placed the trap on top of it. It worked very well...only taking about 15-20 minutes each time.
Chipmunks appear to be most active between about 8am - 2pm. I recommend placing the trap outside when you wake up in the morning. Also, find a small box to place the trap in while you transport the chipmunk - as they become very nervous when they see you. They calm down when they can't see outside of the cage.
I haven't found this trap to be effective for squirells (as of this writing). The squirells seem to get at the bait without going into the trap. Maybe I'll need to find a different type of bait for them.
Finally, try to bring your chipmunk to a wooded area that is not too close to another residential area. You don't want them to be someone else's problem. Also, make sure the site is at least 1 mile away. Good luck.
Great trap June 26, 2008 Got this few days ago and already caught two chipmunks with just one peanut in the trap. So far so good, hope the chipmunks are are not smart enough to avoid it in the future. Amazon has the best price w/ free Prime shipping.
Great buy June 23, 2008 I wish i had bought this two years ago. A chipmunk stay at our backyard and/or our crawl space for 2 years. This guy digged more holes recently. I couldn't stand it then I bought this trap. Thanks the Lord, I caught it the very first night I put it out. One of the great buys I made so far this year. Very pleasant.
