5 out of 5 stars I'm more than happy with my Brother printer.   October 6, 2008
Don Bicknell (Pomona, CA USA)
I have had three HP printers and something always went wrong with them. It is not because they were subjected to lots and lots of use either.

So when my last one broke down, I said "enough with HP already". A coworker suggested buying a Brother printer. He said the ones he has had are real workhorses and has never had a problem with them. The only reason he has had more than one is to upgrade to a later model. He also said the prices are very good, which is another reason it is affordable to upgrade if you choose.

I am so glad that I took his advice. I love the features on the MFC-465cn. It is fast, quiet and so easy to use. It didn't come with a lot of needless software like my HPs did, and the price was phenomenal. I couldn't beleive that I could get some a great printer as such a great price. I couldn't be happier.

2 out of 5 stars Don't try doing anything with heavier paper   October 6, 2008
K. Hiller (Ashland, OH)
I upgraded to this model over the MFC230 I had, hoping it would not jam paper when I tried using the heavier weight paper to do brochures up. This one was worse then the MFC230. I was CONSTANTLY unjamming paper! I am now going to have to try to go with a different brand. [...]

5 out of 5 stars Great MFC for the price   September 16, 2008

You can find this MFC as low as $69 and at this price you really can't go wrong. This MFC comes with the features of expensive MFC's of a few years ago, but at a fraction of the cost.

The ink is relatively cheap for an MFC. I was using an HP all-in-one and the ink was always expensive to replace. Not so with the Brother MFC-465cn.

I have this set up as a network printer and it was done relatively painlessly. Yes, it does take a few days to learn all its functions, but getting past the slight learning curve is well worth the effort. If you are slightly tech-savvy, you will find it has really powerful features. For example you can set the IP address to a fixed one. You can also "telnet" to the printer and change settings with the command line.

Although you can send and receive faxes directly from your PC, this MFC also works in complete "stand alone" mode. I like the fact that the fax scans all your pages to memory before sending it out. If you have a bad destination line, you can set the "compatibility" mode to "Basic" and get the faxes sent over a noisy line. You can set the fax transmission report to include a copy of the cover sheet, making them easy to file.

The color lcd, card readers and pict-bridge slot make it easy to print directly from your camera or flash media, as is the 4"x6" photo print feeder for printing postcard size pictures.

Print quality is excellent. Scanning multiple pages to a PDF document is a cinch. Speed of scanning, printing and copying is reasonably fast, though not as fast as the higher end-MFCs. But with the low price, who cares!

5 out of 5 stars Great mfc   September 16, 2008

I'm very happy with this printer. It's quite, fast, and prints high quality. Network setup was done by installation software, so it was no problem to get started printing. My daughter started printing out pictures from her phone (about 25-30 4x6 photos) and we still have ink left so it will be cheaper than any other inkjet I've used. Haven't used the fax, but it does a good job as a copier, color or black and white.

4 out of 5 stars My Second Brother   September 16, 2008

This All in One is my second from Brother. It has a great photo printing setup and download. It prints only Ok if you want something printed in less than 5 minutes. At first it would hardly print at all, and I had to go to the Brother website to make it play nice with Vista. Now it's fine as far as that's concerned. My biggest gripe is that it either drinks ink when I'm not looking, or the cartridges don't hold much. I'm on my 3rd set of cartridges and I've had it for 4 months. If this continues, I'll have to stop using it because the ink cost will be prohibitive!
