Amazon.com Product Description
Putting the power of Windows Live Messenger at your fingertips, the Microsoft LifeCam VX-6000 takes instant messaging with family and friends to a new level of sight and sound by offering great video and crystal-clear audio with acoustic noise cancellation.

The LifeCam VX-6000 features one-touch access to Windows Live Messenger.

Enjoy megapixel resolution, a wide angle lens, and a 3x digital zoom.
Plus, you get advanced features, such as automatic face tracking software and low-light adjustment, so you feel like you're right there. The VX-6000 also adds several key enhancements over the LifeCam VX-3000, including high definition video capabilities, a wide angle lens, a 3x digital zoom, and a high-speed USB connection. View a comparison of the LifeCam VX-3000 and VX-6000.

The Microsoft LifeCam VX-6000 is optimized for Windows Live Messenger, which is used by the largest worldwide instant messenger community with over 200 million users. Three key features give you a superior Windows Live Experience. First, the Windows Live Call Button makes it easy to start a video call. Simply press the button to see who's online, and you're on your way to a video call. Second, with the LifeCam Dashboard you can access video effects and control your webcam from the Windows Live Messenger window. Lastly, with One-Touch Blogging, a single click allows you to upload to Windows Live Spaces, an "online scrapbook" that lets you easily post blogs, photo albums, and personal music lists.

The VX-6000's automatic face tracking software, which takes advantage of the camera's pan, tilt, and zoom controls, follows you so you don't disappear off-screen. The VX-6000's wide angle lens lets you fit more people on screen so everyone can join in the fun. Alternatively, the 3x digital zoom brings you so close that it's almost like sitting opposite the other person. The camera's high definition sensor makes it possible to experience true 1.3 megapixel video and 5.0 interpolated megapixel photos.

The camera automatically adjusts for low-light conditions for improved video quality, and a built-in unidirectional microphone with acoustic noise cancellation provides crystal-clear audio. Video effects give you a fun way to express yourself, and last but not least, the camera's universal attachment base fits on most monitors, including flat screens. Alternatively, the camera can sit directly on your desk.

Note that while the VX-6000 is optimized for use with Windows Live Messenger, Microsoft LifeCams also work with other instant messaging programs, such as Yahoo Messenger and AOL Instant Messenger.

5 out of 5 stars Great Webcam!!!   September 6, 2008
Geek Reviews (New York City, NY)
My friend originally had the VX-3000, and when I always went to his house, he let me explore his computer and that he was always uploading videos of himself to Youtube. So I decided to get a webcam that moved faster (the VX-3000 has a very slow framerate) and had great quality (the VX-3000 didn't have great quality and there was always buzz around the video). So I bought this webcam, because it was the third highest on Amazon (the first and second were the VX-3000 alone or in a double pack), it was in silver so that if it's accidently dropped, it won't fall, and that it also worked as a camera to take pictures or take video in High Definition. I highly recommend this webcam if you're looking to buy a great Microsoft product.

4 out of 5 stars Nice camera, works well, good features   September 1, 2008
T. Follo (CA-USA)
I got this because of the combined microphone and the higher resolution camera. In the end, I'm not sure if it would be worth the extra price of this over the VX-3000, but I'm happy with the product.

I love the web camera. The zoom and effects are pretty cool. It is real easy to turn face tracking on and off. The face tracking does seem to work. The effects are not. My kids get a kick as I can make an effect of stars, it will make stars twinkle in the web view. It does hang on a laptop no sweat or a LCD panel monitor. There is a twist so you can focus as well.

The microphone is only as good as your environment. It does seem to pick up noise from old monitor-CRT, and may be better off with a LCD monitor with no interference.
The camera came with old driver software. You have to go download driver software. This is the other reason I bought this camera. Microsoft support. I could find the latest drivers to download very easily and they installed great. Easy to check for updates. I'm pretty sure Microsoft will continue to update the drivers.
What I don't like. The product is microsoft centric. When you start up your computer it works well if you plan to use Live Call or Messenger. It has a one click button. That can be painful. That feature is not helpful and almost annoying. When I move the camera and if I accidently touch the top button it cycles and has to start Messenger/Live Call.
Skype-yes it works with skype, wouldn't trade Skype for anything else.

4 out of 5 stars wide angle lens on webcam   August 29, 2008
Juan M. Priego (usa)
Purchased 2 webcams for my relatives, because we like to chat and see each other over skype software. the wide angle lens allows 2 people or more to be seen. the quality is above average but not "outstanding" a lot may have to do with the computer that is used with. It has other features that I have not seen in action.

Decent web cam. Takes OK pictures and video but the effects included could be better.

Good product for typical intended use. Great resolution, sharp image. Unfortunately, I wanted to use it for a time lapse of a constrution project. It won't focus beyond 10 m (or 30 feet).
