| Features:
| • | The input jack allows a quick and easy connection to a Yamaha pickup mute for practice or to a Yamaha MC-7 instrument mic for performance. | | • | One of the things we carried over from the previous generation was the Aux In jack. This jack allows an external sound source to be combined with the signal coming from the mute or microphone. The player can then play along with their favorite song in practice and performance settings and put the fun back in their practice sessions. |

Product Description The complete portable and soundproof system is the most innovative product from brass instruments since the valve. With Silent Practice youll hear a sound inside the earphones so rich and full youll think you are standing on a concert hall stage. The Silent Brass system lets you play your horn anywhere you want, anytime you want, and with just the kind of ambiance you feel like. You can mix into the sounds of a CD player, a Silent Piano, an electronic keyboard or other Silent Brass, and output your playing into a tape deck or even an amp with speakers. Never again will you have to search for a practice room, have to 'stop because it's getting late'. The Silent Brass system includes Personal Studio, Pickup mute, and earphones. Separate Pickup Mutes are also available.

A waste of money December 3, 2008 C. Yang (Iowa, U.S.A) This mute is quite a good idea I have to admit, but its quality is far from satisfaction. First, the air resistance is much larger than I expected. Its amazing that an electronic mute could have little resistance as this one does, but you have to keep in mind that the so-called "least" resistance among similar products does not mean it does not have resistance at all. A quite substantial difference does exist when I put the mute on. Second, the sound that comes out of the earphone is a bit disappointing as well - again, it is good, but far from being realistic. It is very important for nonprofessionals, especially beginners, to learn to hear their own sound, but the mute just basically kills the true sound. br / br /My point is, compared to other alternatives, the Yamaha mute is in the top tier, but for that price it has, it is not worthwhile to purchase it. You will certainly get very disappointed. Maybe I expected too much, but this mute is really not that much different from a $10 cup mute. Try it for yourself before you decide to buy it.
Silent Brass System July 1, 2008 Christina 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Overall Yamaha's Silent Brass System is a great buy for anyone who has trouble with practicing due to roomates, neighbors, etc. I would say the mute eliminates all but about 5-15% of your sound (depending on how loud you are playing). Great for people with apartments, dorms, parents that just don't want to hear it, or even the musician who's selfconscious about their practicing (after all- who wants to hear a neverending pattern of lip slurs, techncal exercises, and slow repetition of that one part the player just can't quite get right??)There is a bit of resistance as some of the other reviewers have mentioned but I found that it actually strengthened my chops and improved my endurance. I would definitely recommend this product to other players.
Great for college dorm room June 26, 2008 Trista Ballou (St. Paul, MN) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've had this for about 4 months now and during the school year it was amazing. I didn't have a lot of time to go to the practice hall, so in between classes and whenever I had a little time, I could just play in my room. It wasn't completely silent, so I would just turn up some music and no one could hear me playing. My room mate was even in the room sometimes while I played and she didn't mind at all. The back pressure is only an issue when I haven't been playing for awhile. Otherwise, I don't have a problem with pressure whatsoever. I would definitely recommend this for any brass player that can't always play in a place where they can be loud.
Awesome Silencer! March 12, 2008 James Kozak 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This mute ROCKS!! I just started playing trumpet again after 10 years away. Unfortunately I am currently deployed to Iraq and living in close quarter to other people. Paper thin is just not good enough a description for our walls. br / br /As with any mute there is some resistance and weight added to your horn while using this, but only a little. If you need to practice in an area that you cannot be loud, this is the product for you. I am very confident that I could use this mute in the room next to a very light sleeper, with the interconnecting doors open and still not wake them. br / br /The other day I was practicing in my office, sometimes I get more privacy there than in my room, and the attorney whose office door is 12 feet from mine did not even know I was playing. BOTH OF OUR DOORS WERE OPEN! We were the only ones in an otherwise empty building so I know it was not a matter of hiding behind ambient noise. I cannot say enough about this mute!
Silent Brass not compatible with Smart Music August 7, 2007 Gregory T. Fuess (Houston, TX 77009) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Silent Brass is a very quiet mute. There is back pressure, no doubt about that. But since it is for practice, when you take the mute off, the horn blows easier, so there is some additional training benefit, if you see it that way. br / br /I don't use the electronics, because I can hear the sound without it without a problem. If Yamaha would make the mute perform multiple duty as a tuner and compatible with Smart Music, it would be a much better buy. In todays electronic age, this isn't a technical challenge, but maybe a marketing one on Yamaha's part.
