4 out of 5 stars enormous improvement over the DVD   December 3, 2008
Mark Skinner (Boston, MA)
As painful as it is to sit through some parts of the film, the 1080p presentation is an enormous improvement over the DVD version. The technical qualities of the camera work and lighting are less than optimal throughout, but it does not diminish the revelation of seeing the picture with an additional 600 progressive lines of resolution. Details previously invisible are rendered with a rawness and presence that is remarkable. The audio improvement is more consistently rewarding. With a 5.1 TrueHD track, the mastering on the Blu-ray places a strong, solid image in the middle of the soundstage that bleeds to all corners, characteristic of an amphitheater's sonic signature. Yet the audio is fairly dry, with good clarity. If you are a Zeppelin fan and can stomach the fantasy sequences and introductory scenes, the Blu-ray version of Song Remains the Same is an absolute must-have.

4 out of 5 stars Restoration, resolution and remix makes a 3 into a 4 star   July 19, 2008

If you're a Zep fan with a Hi-Def setup and wondering if you should give this a spin, go ahead. br / br /The resolution is fantastic, the re-mix is really muscular, the extras are fun, if decent. Bottom line, if you're used to the old version this is actually better than you remember. br / br /The fantasy sequences are actually a bit less silly- the 16:9 ratio and high resolution give them a cinematic feel. You still are gonna have alot of explaining to do if anyone under 15 is around watching, however. br / br /All in all, great job- all rock movie restorations should be this good! br / br /
