5 out of 5 stars Great!   September 27, 2008
Berzerker (all over)
This was my first Rammstien video experience and it was spectacular! 5.1 format was ok, could be better, but just from watching you could almost feel the energy in the air as if you were there. It is well worth having in your DVD collection, and I would recommend any fan to acquire this DVD!

5 out of 5 stars A must own for any Rammstein fan   August 18, 2008

A spectacle like no other, rammstein's performance makes you feel like you are part of the show. The band used an over the top budget to bring you a performance you will never forget. The flames shoot higher the stunts are better and the music is awesome. They let you see what it is like on and off the stage. It allows you experence both perspectives; the audience and the band. Two DVDs and one audio cd. You can not beat it.

The first couple concerts were awesome. the only complaint i have is what someone else said in another review about the last concert. when they do moskau they film away from the concert and start showing them signing autographs and walking around the town.

3 out of 5 stars It's not that great.   June 25, 2008

There always has to be someone to rain on the parade, and this review will do so. I'm a die-hard Rammstein fan. This includes owning every single CD, single, button, poster, magazine... whatever. I absolutely adore the band, but even then, I just don't care for most of this set. br / br /I purchased the most special edition, complete with the audio CDs and book, and the first thing I did was pop the CD in on my next trip somewhere and try to listen to the concert. Note that I said 'try'. I'm a massive audiophile, and I feel that the audio CDs are a complete failure. Sound levels between instruments are terribly off, the whole sound mix feels cheap and unprofessional. Till's voice was just horrid that night, sounding like he was recovering from a cold, and he also really struggles through wide swaths of songs missing timing and keys regularly. I really couldn't believe the people working on the audio didn't scrap that concert and record another- this is the only Rammstein CD I've ever owned that I don't listen to regularly. br / br /The concert footage is pretty perplexingly bad for me. We'll do them in order from worst to best. The clips from Europe are complete trash, with the camera focusing on the crowd and trying to compose artsy closeups so often that many good moments of the concert are missed, and you might see the entire layout of the stage change by the time the camera goes to another establishing shot, with no idea how anyone got where they are or what happened. There's also gratuitous use of slow-motion, making the whole thing totally artificial and worthless. It's more of a bad music video than a concert. The French footage that comprises most of the video has a little less crowd shots, but you'll still miss many important moments of the show while watching random people in the crowd. Many establishing shots show more of the crowd than the band. I just couldn't understand how bad this footage was- why film the backs of people's heads instead of the band? People get mad enough about this when it happens at a show, so why would they want to have this happen to them at home? Japan winds up being the highlight, even though you only get 2 1/2 tracks, because the cameras at least focus on the band the majority of the time and catch important moments in the show (that's an odd thing to have to complement!). The band seems to be having the most fun in Tokyo, and I really wish they would have pulled more of the audio CDs from this one. br / br /The other specials on the DVDs are pretty standard fare. You get a making of and a documentary... if you've seen a DVD in the last decade, you've probably seen other features just like this. br / br /So with all the hate, why am I still throwing out 3 stars? Because of the book. This is one of the coolest books about Rammstein ever printed. Continuing the theme of crowd shots ruining things, there are a LOT of crowd shots in this book, more than there needs to be really. But this is balanced by a ton of very cool and very candid shots of the band, as well as some startlingly good press material from over the years. I'm really considering finding a shop that can scan and blow some of these pictures up so I can have some excellent posters for my wall. The only way to get any closer to the band is to actually be there. br / br /To the hardcore Rammstein fan, this review is probably meaningless because they'll own and appreciate what they get anyway. For anyone who's not quite that fanatical, this is a magnificent coffee table book surrounded by some rather poor media supplements. Then again, judging by other reviews, maybe there really are a lot of people out there who like staring at the backs of strangers' heads rather than seeing a good solo or an important stage transition, and maybe I'm totally out there. But I just can't recommend much more than the book in this set.
