Product Description
Historical Novel Society memberships include four quarterly issues of the iHistorical Novels Review/i and two semiannual issues of iSolander/i, for a total of six issues per year. p The iHistorical Novels Review/i aims to review every new work of adult historical fiction released in the U.S. or the U.K. Selected titles from Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are also reviewed, as are selected children's/young adult and historical nonfiction titles, for a grand total of over 800 reviews per year. It is the only magazine of its kind, the best and most complete guide to the latest historical fiction in the world. p Besides book reviews, we also feature author interviews, market updates, feature articles, and letters from subscribers. We have recently featured interviews with Elizabeth Kostova (iThe Historian/i), David Anthony Durham (iPride of Carthage/i), Margaret George (the upcoming iHelen of Troy/i), and Susanna Clarke (iJonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell/i). The magazine appears quarterly in February, May, August, and November. p iSolander/iis published twice yearly, in May and November. It is a magazine of interviews, articles, short fiction, and comment--the only such magazine in the world for enthusiasts of historical fiction. Recent topics in iSolander/i have included marketing historical fiction creatively; profiles of prominent publishers; interviews with Wilbur Smith, Diana Gabaldon, and Margaret Elphinstone; regular columns by Candace Robb and literary agent Irene Goodman; the best in historical short fiction; and much more! p Memberships run by calendar year. When you place your order, you'll receive all magazines published thus far in the current year, plus forthcoming magazines as they are published. Orders placed in November and December will be held for the following year's membership. Because magazines are shipped from the United Kingdom, please allow several weeks for delivery. Libraries, schools, and other institutions may place orders at the same rate as individuals.

5 out of 5 stars For lovers of historical fiction ..   April 6, 2007

.. membership of the Historical Novel Society is a great way of finding out what is being published, where and when. br / br /The magazine is well organised so you can skim, if you wish, through those historical periods that are of less interest to you. Alternatively, voracious readers like me continue to add books to the 'to be read' lists so beloved of true bookaholics. br / br /Membership of the HNS also provides copies of 'Solander' twice a year. While 'Solander' includes articles and interviews primarily relevant to historical fiction, many of the topics covered are also relevant to fiction writing, reading and marketing more generally. br / br /I am a member, but not currently a contributor, to the HNS. One day, perhaps.. br / br / br /Highly recommended. br / br /Jennifer Cameron-Smith br / br /
