Designed to be your all-around knife for cutting fruits, vegetables, sandwiches, and such, this 5-inch utility knife benefits from J.A. Henckels's 260 years in the cutlery business. It's made from high-grade, rolled stainless steel, produced using Henckels's own Sintermetal Component Technology. This process allows different grades of steel to be combined to form a single integral piece capable of withstanding extreme stress--each part of the knife is made from the grade of steel with the optimum characteristics for that component. The cutting edge features a specially designed serration pattern, ensuring prolonged sharpness without resharpening. The full-length tang (meaning the metal continues all the way through to the end of the handle) gives you a better-balanced and stronger knife. The polypropylene handle with rustproof rivets is nearly indestructible. It's dishwasher-safe, but be careful that the blade doesn't touch other objects; hand washing is recommended to keep steel blades scratch free. --Doree Armstrong

 Excellent General Purpose Knife June 15, 2008

I got this knife to go along with my other Henkel Eversharp knives. It works well for all purpose cutting and smaller jobs such as cutting oranges and lemons. So far mine has stayed sharp and the tip is still in tact. I would recommend this knife if you are looking for a durable all purpose knife for smaller jobs.

It's not really the best knife for anything (though I have found it does the best job of any of my knives on frozen meat, but most people aren't cutting frozen meat), but it can do a lot of things competently. Never tried chopping with it (that's what chef's knives are for), nor paring (paring knives), but, over the past two years, it's filled the gap between, be it cutting tomatoes or slicing bread. For someone with only 3 knives (the minimum I'd recommend), this can handle a wide range of tasks.

I use this great little knife everyday for all kinds of cutting,slicing,chopping,etc. It does a terrific job,has a great feel, nice & sharp & easy to handle. For this price it's a steal..Going to order the 3 piece set with chef's knife,this knife & paring knife & I'll be all set & never have to worry about sharpening ever..I JUST LOVE IT...

Very sharp blade and comfortable handle. Excellent quality for the money. Only possible drawback is the box indicates it is not recommended for lefties. My wife, a lefty, says she has no problem slicing but has cut her fingers several times while chopping. I, a righty, have no such problems. Well worth the purchase price but be aware if you are, or you're buying the knife for, a lefty.

I noticed that the tip had broken off while washing it after 2 months of use. Henckels makes a great knife but be advised--this is NOT a good knife. Good Henckels knives are made in Japan or Germany. This knife is made in Thailand. Could that be the difference?
