Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Maxxima introduces the MLS-05W occupancy sensor light. The battery operated MLS-05W automatically turns itself on when motion is detected by the built in sensor and turns itself off around 30 seconds after you leave the area. Dusk to dawn sensor prevents daylight activation. The MLS-05W also has the option of being left on at all times with its manual override switch. This is a perfect item to be kept in a closet, bathroom, or any space which requires lighting. With its occupancy sensor you can set the light to automatically go on when it detects motion at night. This model is an upgrade to our original model the MLS-03 which has 3 LEDs in it.

1 out of 5 stars Works Very Poor if at All   December 11, 2008
Chifan7 (Long Island, N.Y.)
I had to return this light because the first one was defective. Even the second one doesn't work very well. The motion sensor work properly intermittently, then work sporatically the rest of the time. Look elseware for this type of light.

5 out of 5 stars Makes a great closet light   December 11, 2008

Fantastic for that unlighted hall closet. Comes on when it sees motion (about 3 seconds) and goes off about 30 seconds after it sees no more motion. Runs on 4 AA batteries and provides enough light to find your coat.

1 out of 5 stars buy the MLS-10 instead   October 31, 2008
Cato (Washington, DC)
I bought three of these MLS-05 Maxxima units and they are junk. The motion detector turns the light on and off spastically every few seconds; by contrast, the MLS-10 keeps the light on steadily for about 40-60 seconds after activation. The AC adapter does not fit the unit correctly and falls out of the unit with the slightest motion. The superior MLS-10 plugs directly into the wall and stays firmly affixed (though it does block both outlets) br / br /The MLS-05 has 5 leds instead of 3 (MLS-10), so it is much brighter. But if you use it as a motion activated night light, you don't really need more than 3 leds. br / br /Very disappointing as other Maxxima products have been good. I am returning them for an equivalent value of MLS-10

2 out of 5 stars so-so   September 15, 2008

i was hoping this would work well in my girlfriends garage as a motion sensor light. you need to have your hand about 10'' from the device for it to turn on. so much for the added security of having the light turn on as soon as you enter the garage or open the garage door. it does put out a decent amount of light and i'm sure it could be used as a flashlight in the event power goes out, but the motion sensor feature is basically worthless. i'm going to the store tonight to purchase a standard motion sensor operated light fixture that's wired into the garage.

5 out of 5 stars So useful, I can't make up my mind where to put it!   August 13, 2008

This light and motion sensitive nightlight is pretty powerful. I ordered mine without the adapter so I'm using 4 rechargeable AA batteries. I tried it out in several locations in my apartment which needed a night light. It is reasonably effective. To be truly effective, it would need a wider field of motion sensing but that might cause it to be overly sensitive. The light sensor triggers the nightlight when the ambient light is dim but not pitch dark. Some people might find that overly sensitive. br / br /Late at night for those little trips from bedroom to other parts of the place, I've found myself just picking it up on my way to another part of the house because it's easier than flicking the house lights on in the dark. How is that for convenient? br / br /I ordered this product Aug. 2008. If you order directly from Maxxima instead of Amazon, you get free shipping with a minimum $25 purchase instead of $50.
