Amazon.com Product Description
Wake up in style with the Sony ICF-C492 AM/FM clock radio. Outfitted with a jumbo 1.4-inch green LED display, variable brightness control, an analog AM/FM tuner--and yes, a big honkin' snooze bar--this handy companion is sure to get you going in the morning. The space-conscious design is attractive and stylish, with a modern aesthetic that takes up hardly any space on the nightstand. The large display is also a plus, as it makes it easy to tell time from a distance--a particular bonus for people with poor vision. Households with more than one sleeper will appreciate the dual alarm, which allows two separate people to wake at different times without resetting the alarm. And should you need a more abrupt noise than the radio can provide, the ICF-C492 offers both loud and soft buzzer alarms. p Additional features include a sleep timer and a memory backup function that preserves the clock and alarm settings should the power go out (requires 9-volt battery). The clock radio measures 7.88 by 4 by 4.38 inches (W x H x D) and is backed by a one-year warranty on parts and labor. p bWhat's in the Box/bbr Clock radio, user's manual.

4 out of 5 stars Best value   January 9, 2009

This is the best alarm clock/radio I have found, especially considering the reasonable price. Good reception (wish is had a digital tuner though) and of high quality overall. Very easy to change the alarm time with both rapid + or - buttons. The slide switch for the mode - "off" "Radio" "buzzer" "radio and buzzer" feels a little flimsy but overall I would recommend this clock radio and would buy another.

3 out of 5 stars Works well - some quirks   January 7, 2009
Ken Mckenzie (Lafayette, CA United States)
I've been looking all over for an alarm clock with a big display. All the others that I tried were WAY TOO BRIGHT. This one lives at the other end of the spectrum. First of all, it has an adjustment wheel for continuous adjustability. The problem is that while it dims to almost invisibility it only gets marginally bright enough for daytime viewing. 20 years ago these clocks came with a light sensor that adjusted the brightness automatically, but now none do. The designers apparently haven't done their homework because they could easily include this feature in modern designs. br / br /The other problem I have is that the controls are unlike any other clock I've ever encountered. Instead of the standard "Time/Hour/Minute/Alarm buttons that every other clock has to set the time this one has +fast/+/-fast and a slider to get to the alarm. Also to activate the alarm or shut it off there is another slider switch, not the most easily manipulated when groggy. It should be a separate switch, large, preferably located by itself, not a fussy slider with 4 different settings. br / br /Also a red display choice would be nice since the eye is not so sensitive to red and it doesn't interfere with night vision.

5 out of 5 stars Easy to use and Read Dual Alarm   January 6, 2009
SunnyvaleJim (CA)
Used for about one month. Display is easy to read with easy and large adjustment range from dim to bright. Easy to set. Decent button placement. Average AM radio. Relatively compact and stable design for the display size. We use as first alarm radio, second alarm buzzer. I do not think you can set two alarm times for buzzer, one must be radio.

4 out of 5 stars Bedside Clock   December 28, 2008
Harold E. Pryor (Charlotteville, VA)
Excellent bedside clock. Easy to read at night. Alarm is simple to set. Radio reception is poor without an ariel which I don't have..

1 out of 5 stars Display is too dim   December 21, 2008
P. Mandell (SF Bay Area)
The display is way too dark and almost impossible to read accurately during the day time.
