Magnum 6" Peppermill January 7, 2009 Jack R. Hicks (North Alabama) This is the best peppermill I've ever owned. Loading the pepper corns is very easy; no disassembly required. Adjustment of the grind is a snap. Build quality is top notch. Magnum got everything right with this peppermill.
Slippery When Wet January 3, 2009 Joshua N. Rosenwasser (Tampa, FL USA) Love the easy fill window. Love the power and grind variation. All came to a halt when my oily/wet cooking hands couldn't grip and grind. Switching to the keytop model.
I loved the Magnum Plus Peppermill so much... December 21, 2008 D. Hill (Boston, MA) ...that I bought my mother the smaller version and she couldn't be happier with the peppermill. If you are in the market for a great peppermill, I would highly recommend the Magnum line of peppermills.
Lack of longevity is an issue December 16, 2008 Kimberly P. Wright (Monterey Bay, CA, USA) I also purchased this mill based on a review in Cook's Illustrated. It worked well for a couple of years, although I also experienced the design flaw with the filler opening that can easily open when you don't want it to. The disappointment came when the plastic cracked around the axle of the grinder mechanism, rendering the mill useless. It shouldn't be necessary to discard and replace a tool after only a couple of years of moderate use.
The best with a caveat December 9, 2008 Golf Addict (Santa Monica, CA United States) By far the best pepper mill I've owned. Hands down. Kudos to Cook's Illustrated for highly recommending it twice as THE pepper mill to get. I don't get the people who complain about the pepper port moving in the same direction as the grind knob and thus unwittingly dispensing whole peppercorns all over the kitchen. With the left hand at the base and the top hand on the grind knob, what's the problem? My own little issue that I've noticed -- and maybe mine is flawed -- is that the grind adjustment has a tendency to drift toward the coarse. Now, I don't mind that tendency when it comes to girlfriends but the problem is when I want to get it back to a finer grind I have to turn the grind knob counterclockwise in order to unstick the grind adjustment screw. The screw will not just back up of its own volition because the grinding area needs to be cleared of pepper. Minor, and not such a big deal to deduct a star from this otherwise stellar kitchen performer. In terms of output, effort, grind adjustment, this is nonpareil.
