4 out of 5 stars pretty solid; dark cherry redder than expected   June 18, 2006

I bought the 18", 24", 33" Flying Nun shelves. Note that the 33" has a larger depth than the 18" and 24" so it looks a little odd if you line them all up br / br /I bought the dark chrerry version. The color was a little redder than most of my other dark cherry furniture (only obvious in bright light). In addition, some of the red stain rubs off on the wall when one is hanging the shelf if you are not careful. br / br /I concur with the prior purchaser that you need to pick up plastic anchors if you don't want to locate the shelf over a wall stud. Also, you definitely want to use a good level when measuring where to put the holes. br / br /I have not put heavy hard cover books on the shelf, though it looks like it can take a fair amount of weight without tearing out of the wall (but why risk it?).

3 out of 5 stars Over-priced and questionable quality   November 19, 2005

The shelf looks good. br / br /That aside, unless you happen to be mounting it in such a way that the end pieces exactly line up with wall studs, then you'll need two anchor plugs...which naturally they didn't provide. Fifty bucks for a shelf, and they couldn't throw in a couple of 25-cent pieces of plastic. But they do tell you that you can go out and buy some. Fortunately, I had a bunch on hand, but still... br / br /And I'm not going to trust any weight to it, either. br / br /Nor do I think I'll ever buy another one. br / br /Did I mention, it looks good?
