Product Description Iron Chef is an innovative cooking competition from Japan. Originally produced by Fuji TV, Iron Chef combined the excitement of a one on one sports competition with gourmet cooking. The title Iron Chef comes from the original Japanese title, Ironmen of Cooking. The bamboo steamer is made from all natural bamboo with an authentic handmade Chinese design. The double-woven lid allows the steam to hover in the top while the bottom keeps the vegetables from soaking in water. One of the healthiest methods of cooking, steaming allows for the foods natural oils and flavors to be released so that no oils are needed.
Amazon.com Review Handcrafted entirely from bamboo, this traditional Chinese steamer not only looks charming but cooks in a healthy manner without the need of fats. The lid is handsomely woven in a basket style, while the two tiers feature slats across the bottom to let steam rise from a pan of boiling water below. Measuring 12 inches across, the steamer holds generous quantities of potstickers, dim sum, vegetables, and fish, using both tiers together or just one at a time. And, because the steamer retains heat well, it makes a great serving container. Give it a quick scrub after cooking, and it's good to go. The warm honey color of burnished bamboo results from a heating process that caramelizes the plant's natural sugars. p Bamboo is an amazing and renewable natural resource. With little care and no replanting necessary, this member of the grass family grows to harvestable size in just a few years. Resembling wood in its uses and appearance, but much harder, bamboo makes an earth-friendly choice that can save forests from being cut down and thus help prevent global warming. I--Ann Bieri/I

Nice Steamer that Wears its Logo on its Sleeve. November 24, 2008 David Hunter (New York, NY) I was searching for a really nice bamboo steamer that was well constructed, durable, and looked great. It seemed like that this was the Rolls Royce of steamers considering its price so I decided to indulge and purchase this product. So today I got it in the mail and it looked liked what I hoped it would be. Bamboo steamers are very versatile and I wanted to use mine for a variety of reasons. If you only want to use this steamer just to steam, this is a great product, however, I also wanted to use mine as a pie carrier. This item on this website looks deep but it is actually really shallow. There is no way a pie can fit in this steamer so it won't be doing any double duty chores. I guess it is an unfair request to ask a steamer to perform a duty it wasn't meant to do, however, the $10 steamers I get in Chinatown are deep and make great pie and cake carriers. I think that for $40 it is not too much to ask that this steamer be as deep as its lower priced plain wrapped siblings. One thing I like about this steamer is the burnished finish. It looks rich and elegant. Here though is the achilles heel of this steamer; the Iron Chef logo is stamped in black on the side. I couldn't believe this. Bamboo steamers are such simple, utilitarian objects, perhaps one of the greatest cooking inventions ever made. Do you really want to be staring at an Iron Chef logo when you are steaming your vegetables? I sure don't. So I can't use it to carry my apple pie. I can live with that. I can't however, live with advertising on the side of my bamboo steamer. I will be returning this.
