Sadly disappointed in the design and the amount of time it took me to make my juice and clean up May 14, 2006 MASAMBA (Port-au-Prince, Haiti) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I was so hoping for this to be the answer to living in a 3rd world country with no electricity and blackouts. Unlike an electric rotary juicer, which spins and breaks up the pulp "from below", the Professional Citrus Juicer, crushes the fruit and squeezes the juice by imposing pressure "from above". Consequently, as the downward pressure increases against the skin of the fruit, about 10% of the pulp pops outside of the peel and NEVER gets squeezed at all. So, unless you don't mind nibbling at the outer edges of each rind as you go along, after you have removed it from the machine, you loose at least 10 % of the potential juice from your fruit. Supposing you have a large family and have to squeeze three oranges per person to get a 6 ounce glass of juice, this makes for alot of NIBBLING! Of course, if you don't mind wasting this precious juice and throwing it out in the waste basket, then it is not a problem. The second inconvenient is the fact that it is impossible to clean the BELL-SHAPED DOME that presses down over the fruit. It cannot be removed from the aparatus, so you must turn the entire heavy, cumbersome, contraption upside-down, in order to run it under the tap water; success being, of course, whether or not you have a sink that is wide and deep enough in which to maneuver, so you can clean it properly. Of course, the upside is, that the juice coming out of it, tastes just as good as the juice coming from an electronic juicer. GOOD IDEA, but NEITHER EXPEDIENT NOR EFFICIENT!
