Product Description Superior cutlery is an investment in the pleasure, efficiency, and safety of your kitchen. Sharp knives allow you to breeze through your prep and are far less likely to cause injury from inadvertent slipping. This knife block set contains the most-used knives, a steel and storage block to keep their edges aligned, and kitchen shears which come in handy for all sorts of tasks. A KitchenEtc Top Seller for 5 years, this set is sought after by gourmet chefs who appreciate and demand fine quality knives.
Amazon.com Review Most of the Henckels lines--including the popular Four Star series--feature blades made of Friodur, a special ice-hardened, no-stain steel created and patented by the company in 1939. This special formula was designed for exceptional hardness and high resistance to corrosion. The knives included in this set are some of the brand's most popular and versatile pieces. For vegetable peeling and cutting duties, there is a 3-inch paring knife. Two utility knives--a 5-inch serrated blade and a 6-inch standard--make quick work of most household cutting and slicing jobs, while an 8-inch chef's knife makes chopping and dicing a breeze. An 8-inch carver handles roasts, and an 8-inch bread knife easily slices through fresh-baked loaves. The set also includes a pair of sleek, multipurpose kitchen shears, a 9-inch honing steel for keeping blades at their razor-sharp best, and hardwood block for attractive and secure storage, and more. pFounded in 1731, the J.A. Henckels company is not only one of the world's oldest cutlery manufacturers, it's also one of the most well-respected, creating best-selling knives guaranteed to last a lifetime. i--Kim Harwell/i pbWhat's in the Box/bbr 3-inch paring knife, 5-inch serrated utility knife, 6-inch standard utility knife, 8-inch chef's knife, 8-inch carver, 8-inch bread, kitchen shears, 9-inch honing steel, hardwood block. High Quality August 11, 2007 L. Ramsey (FL) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a wonderful knife set. The sharpener, scissors and wood block are counted as pieces so don't expect 9 knives. These knives are the sharpest I have ever used. They are so sharp that I have cut my fingers twice already. The handles are a good fit for my small hands. The block has room for two more knives and steak knives. I have since purchased the $70 santuku 7 inch, and the $35 4 inch paring knife to complete the set. I put my old steak knives in the steak knife slots since they are still in good shape. It would have been more cost effective to have purchased the 18 piece set rather than adding on individual knives, but I didn't think my husband would be happy seeing the $450 bill for that. This is a great basic set that you can add on to according to your needs. Less expensive sets need to be replaced after a few years, but these knives are built to last. I hope this review helps you make a decision.
Henkle 4 Star July 16, 2007 Mark Metz (Madison, WI, United States) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is the first set of 'real' knives that we've bought and have been incredibly satisfied with our purchase for over 5 years now. Moving from cheapo knives or 'Ginsu-type' serrated knives makes these Henkles feel like heaven. br / br /Point 1: yes, mom, they are worth the money. br /Point 2: use the sharpener, often, and don't use it on any other knives. br /Point 3: the knife that sees the most use from this set is the kitchen shears...seriously. br / br /I could go on and expound upon the values of this wonderful product (I have witty stories for each of the points above), but for general household applications, this is a wonderful set of tools and the 9 piece gives you room in the block for pre-existing knives or future purchases. br / br /5 out of 5, easily.

The best available at any price. If you want uncompromising quality, these are the knives to buy.
The last knife you'll ever buy July 11, 2004 David K Ching (Hollywood) As a proffesional chef, the only knives I use are Henckels. I've had the same 4 star 8 inch chefs knife for over 6 years. If you multiply those 6 years by about 200 meals a night 5 days a week you get roughly 312,000 meals prepared with that knife. I've got to say it's still going strong and it's still my favorite knife to use. I'm purchasing this set for my sister who is getting married this August, and it will definately be the only set she ever needs to buy. pTo the gentleman who wrote about wustof being the superior brand, I have to say I'm sorry. The only way that it will ever be superior to Henckels is if you are a Wustof salesman. Try cooking over 312,000 meals with a Wustof and call me later. The just don't last as long. pThe henckels 4 star knife is perfectly balanced and has excellent hand feel. From someone who uses it everyday, trust me. I will never buy another brand of knife again.
I have to laugh! July 5, 2004 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
In reading two of the reviews below, it appears that these reviewers are biased against Henckels (don't know why?). Well I can tell you that we bought a Four Star, 9 piece set (a bit different from this one being offered) 16 years ago. My wife does quite a bit of cooking and one of my daughters also cooks. They use these knives daily and we can testify to their overall excellent quality and ability to keep a sharp edge. We have never experienced the previous reviewer's complaint of corrosion in fact, the physical appearance of these knives is identical as when we purchased them in 1988. We have compared other knives but so far have not found anything equal in quality and utility to the Four Star.brI am looking to buy another set as a house warming gift for my daughter-in-law and son and have no reservation in the purchase price.brQuality speaks for itself.
