4 out of 5 stars Owned one for several years   January 5, 2009
Lauren M. Kearns (Boston, MA, USA)
I've owned this kettle for 5+ years and have had no complaints. I am lazy and leave water in it - no problems with rust until recently. I am buying a new one this year because the bottom is starting to show signs of wear. Overall, I think this product has lasted well. In my house it is used daily and anything that lasts more than a few years is a good get.

2 out of 5 stars Great...when it's not falling apart!   December 31, 2008
J. Rowan-Stern (Amherst, MA USA)
About a year ago, I started drinking more tea than coffee at least during the winter months. SO, I needed a kettle. The first Oxo I bought lasted about 2 weeks before the littole hinge pins at the spout broke so I took it back. Now the handle on the cover has broken a screw mount so it will either have to be replaced or repaired. When it is together and not falling apart it works great. I just done have that much confidence in it's quality.

1 out of 5 stars Design Flaw   December 26, 2008
M. Brown (California)
This teakettle has a design flaw. The handle on ours started to come loose within a month or so. It has to be retightened every week or it almost falls off. The loosening occurs at the spot where the handle is attached and by the uplift, which creates a constant yank on this spot. Very frustrating for an expensive, otherwise good tea kettle. Don't but it. The problem is inherent on the design.

2 out of 5 stars Good-looking but rusts and leaks   December 21, 2008
Andrew Whitacre
My wife and I had registered for this at Macy's as a wedding gift. While it looks great and is easy to use, we're going to have to replace it after just a few months because the joint around the body and the bottom has completely rusted and now slowly leaks water. br / br /I'm about to check to see if there's any guarantee, but otherwise I can't recommend this teakettle.

5 out of 5 stars Over 1 year and still whistling strong!   December 10, 2008
Charles Evans (North Carolina)
The OXO Teakettle is a constant companion of our kitchen. We use it to boil water for coffee on a *almost* nightly basis. The water heats up quickly (as expected) and the kettle produces an unmistakeable whistling sound. The kettle is well-constructed out 18-8 stainless steel (known as 304 stainless here in the USA) with a a pleasing brushed look. The brushed finish means that there never a need to wipe down smudge or fingerprints br / br / Some people have mentioned that their kettle has corroded. It is important to remember that 18-8 stainless (304) is one of oldest grades of stainless. While it is unlikely that it will rust it does need to be treated with a little special care. Do not clean with overly harsh chemical (especially bleach) - try to stick to good old soap-and-water! br / br /Pros br / br /- Nice looking kettle! It fits in perfectly with the modern kitchen br /- Nice sounding "Whistle" br /- Well built - not "flimsy" or cheaply made br /- Made of stainless steel (Which I prefer over aluminum) br /- Well built - we have not experienced any loose screws or pieces coming off br / br / br /Areas to improve br / br /- It can be a little hard to open the top to pour the water in br /- 18-8 (304) stainless is a lower grade austenitic stainless steel. While it is unlikely that it will rust - you will need to be careful in how it is cleaned NEVER CLEAN WITH BLEACH br / br / While there are a couple of minor flaws as whole we have been very pleased with the OXO kettle. I am not sure what more any one could want in a tea kettle! br / br /5 stars
