The most important part of any stew, "boeuf bourguignon", "cop au vin" or "carbonnade flamande", requires the important but messy step of first browning the cubed beef or cut up fowl. This seals the juices within the seared exterior of each morsel but create splatters. A splatter screen helps but is hardly a foolproof solution since you must brown the meat on all sides and you cannot keep the pan covered for very long. At the end, you will have to clean up the top of your stove and all surrounding areas. Circulon 2 minimizes splatters (although there will be some, it is inevitable) but it is the best and only method, to my knowledge, to effectively deal with this messy step and not spend all day cleaning up afterward.
