my favorite coffee pot August 31, 2008 coffee lover (New York) Good product that does not seem to be available in stores anymore. Great online price. Fast delivery. Overall a simple, fast, inexpensive online shopping esperience.
Disappointed July 28, 2008 CFB I bought this even with all the bad reviews about the top. I thought for such a good price ($16) I would just replace the plastic perk top from the get go with a glass one. Well, this one is not made so that the perk top can be unscrewed; it has to be broken off of the top. Also, the hole it leaves in the top is too small for the "fitz-all" replacement perk tops. Guess I'll use it awhile only while watching it, and if the plastic breaks I'll just ream out the hole to be able to get a replacement glass perk top into it. It does look very nice but, like all the new percolator manufacturers, they seem to be concerned only with making a pot of coffee FAST rather than really brewing the coffee. That's why the new ones are 1000 watts. I prefer the old 450 watt percolators that really brew the coffee for 15-20 minutes. Anyway, that's my take on this product.
Awesome Coffee July 25, 2008 S. Martz (Hollister, CA) This is my second purchase of this coffee pot. The first one is still working perfectly (for about 2 years now) but I couldn't bear the thought that it might someday just wear out from it's daily brewing task. So, fearing that the manufacturer might someday discontinue this model, I bought a second one. The main reason that I like this coffee pot is that it is stainless steel. There's no plastic touching the coffee (if you don't count the small plastic topper where the coffee perks up). Therefore, you get only pure coffee taste. And the pot can be easily scoured to remove oils, stains, etc. I love it! If I outlive both my current one and it's replacement and can't find another, I guess I'll just quit drinking coffee!
Great Coffee Maker -but it breaks after a year January 22, 2008 Working Mom (New York, NY) This is my all-time favorite coffee maker. It brews fantastic coffee within five minutes, and it's very easy to clean. And since it doesn't use coffee filters, it saves a bit of money in the long run...sort of. This leads to the two reasons I didn't give this percolator five-stars. The first is that the clear top is plastic. Elementary physics/chemistry dictates an almost inevitable outcome when plastic is subjected to a hot liquid over a period of time. So after about a year the clear top of my percolator became brittle, broke off, rendering the whole thing unusable. So here I am ordering another one. Second, it doesn't have an automatic shut off, so you'll need to make sure you unplug it every time you use it. I got into the habit of unplugging the percolator as soon as my coffee finished brewing - so I wouldn't have to remember to unplug it later. That withstanding, I really do recommend this coffee maker. Just remember to unplug it, and expect a year or so of use.
Mount Vesuvious September 27, 2007 Peter F. Smith (Middle Haddam, CT United States) Put on the coffee, went out for a newspaper and came back to find the pot had cracked the cheap plastic top and was spewing coffee to the ceiling like Mt. Vesuvious. The top is now jammed into the lid and held in place with duct tape. Went to Macy's, Target and Ace. No replacement tops. Designer of pot should have to stand naked under it with legs spread. Why not a glass top?
