Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Lots of style and grand technology have been added to European style coffeemakers. But what about those of us who enjoy a great cup of (what Europeans call) American coffee? The Capresso MT-500-Plus coffee maker celebrates the glory and taste of American coffee with this precise and stylish drip coffee maker. The MT500 Plus Coffee Maker is constructed from high-gloss aluminum alloy, which is specially designed to hide dirty fingerprints and sustain its shiny luster. This coffee machine comes with a 10-cup stainless steel insulated thermal carafe, which keeps coffee warm for several hours. It also features a smooth touchpad control panel, a digital clock/timer that lets you preprogram your desired brewing time, a charcoal water filter to remove chlorine and impurities (LED indicator lights when it's time to change filter) , auto shut-off and a wonderful pause-to-serve function so that you can grab a cup of coffee mid-brew! In addition, there's a permanent gold-tone filter that is easy to clean and convenient cord storage. You enjoy coffee and it's time for American coffee to ascend to the grade of serious pleasure. It's in the brew and the MT500-Plus brews delicious coffee. And you deserve the best! Drip stop allows you to pour a cup while brewing. Charcoal water filter removes up to 83% chlorine. Electronic filter indicator shows when to replace the charcoal filter. 24-hour programmable clock/timer with easy to read LED display. Special settings maintains aroma when brewing only 3-5 cups. Permanent GoldTone filter is easy to use and easy to clean. Safety auto shut-off after brewing. Water level indicator makes filling the right amount of water easy. Concealed cord storage lets you extend just the amount of cord you need.

Amazon.com Review
Employing a stainless-steel vacuum carafe instead of a warming plate, this coffeemaker brews up to 10 cups in under eight minutes for maximum flavor and aroma, and the carafe then keeps the coffee hot for several hours. The carafe prevents coffee from turning bitter, as it can when sitting on a warming plate, and doesn't have to remain with the machine for coffee to stay hot. The machine also offers a setting for brewing three to five cups without diluting the flavor or aroma. The unit's charcoal water filter removes up to 83 percent of the chlorine in tap water, and its electronic indicator shows when the water filter needs replacing. To reduce calcification, Capresso's stainless-steel ThermoBlock system prevents water from contacting aluminum inside the machine. p For added convenience, the coffeemaker's digital, programmable, 24-hour clock/timer makes it possible to have coffee ready in the morning, while its brew-pause function allows for pouring a cup midbrew. Other useful features include a handy side panel with easy-access soft-touch controls, an illuminated LED display, a drip-free spout, a permanent Gold Tone filter, automatic shutoff after brewing, an external water-level indicator, and concealed cord storage. Made of high-gloss aluminum alloy with black, plastic accents, the coffeemaker measures 9-3/4 by 10 by 13-3/4 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty against defects. i--Fred Brack/i

5 out of 5 stars Great Coffee Maker   November 30, 2008
Bryan Allen White (Spokane, WA)
I hesitated to purchase because of the overflow issue. I found this to not be a problem. It has overflowed twice since I purchased it. Once I forgot to put the carafe in them coffee maker at 4:30am, and second my wife forgot to put the lid on the carafe. br / br /This capresso makes great tasting coffee, and is suprisingly easy to clean.

5 out of 5 stars good coffee   November 2, 2008

After years of breaking and replacing Krups glass carafes, it was time for a coffemaker with a thermal carafe. I bought a refurbished Capresso 441.05 MT-500 for $89. At that price it's a steal. At the usual $189 price, it would be a bit expensive. But it makes tasty coffee, which is what matters. br / br /I've been using it every day for about 6 weeks. I use a measuring cup to determine how much water to use, so the tiny numbers on the gauge are not an issue for my aging eyes. The brewed coffee always flows into the carafe - the only way for it to spill onto the counter would be if the carafe were not empty if you started. The carafe keeps the coffee hot enough for at least two hours - that's the longest I've let it sit. Usually I'm done with the coffee in less than an hour and it's still piping hot. br / br /I like that there is no burner to keep the coffee hot. When the brewing cycle is finished, it turns off. No more worry about leaving home with the coffeemaker still on. br / br /The only difference between the 440.05 and 441.05 is that the 441's filter holder is metal, while it's black plastic on the 440. Otherwise the models are supposedly identical. If you can find a refurb at reduced price like I did, go for it.

4 out of 5 stars Good Coffee   November 2, 2008

Since it extremely hard to purchase a Technivorm KB741 - I decided to give this one a try. br / br /The Technivorm is a 1200 watt machine while the Capresso is 1000 watts. br / br /It brews a very hot cup of coffee which makes the coffee very tasty. br / br /It is very fast and extremely easy to use. br / br /Is it worth it? Well, it would depend on what you are used to drinking. If Folgers is adequate for your taste and you never go to Starbucks - this machine is a waste of money for you. br / br /However, if you frequently go to Starbucks and coffee is a priority in your life - then this machine is well worth it. Especially if you were to brew your own joe, instead of going to Starbucks. This machine would pay for itself in a month or two. br / br /I actually purchased a refurbished one from J R - for $80 - so I feel like I really got a good deal.

4 out of 5 stars Nearly ideal   October 23, 2008

I had this coffeemaker for 2 weeks already. I have a Capresso coffee grinder for a few years and never had problems with it - decided to give their coffeemaker a try. The styling is superb and the controls are effortless and intuitive. The programming works great, and the clock is plainly visible even when the kitchen is brightly lit. There is no innate problem with an overflow, as long as you won't go over the "max" marking on a side. The red indicator ball, albeit small is clearly observable. br /The machine makes very good coffee, and even though the liquid temperature is fine by me, it's not brewing as hot as my old Cusinart used to. That's not a defect in my opinion, because it's still hot enough to wait a couple of minutes before talking your first morning sip. I don't bother with a water filter, because I only use bottled water, however I do grind my coffee and try to get only the best beans. For about $190.00 I may've expected a bit more for the money, but I'm not disappointed and will recommend it. br /

5 out of 5 stars customer service   October 16, 2008

I never write reviews but just had to reward the company for their excellent customer service. My machine stopped working after about 1 1/2 years of hard use (and good coffee). My local small-appliance guys don't fix this brand, so I had to contact the company. For $65 they sent me a UPS label and promised to fix the machine, and within about one week of me putting it in the mail, I had a brand-new machine delivered to my door. br /I appreciate this response, even though the $65 initially annoyed me.
