Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Placed in the centre of a pie, under the crust, this pie bird vents excess heat and steam from the filling, allowing liquids to reduce (concentrating the flavour and cutting the risk of soggy pastry), and supports the top crust.
White.
Oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe.
To use the pie bird, line the pie plate with a pastry shell. Place the pie bird into the centre and add the filling around the pie bird. Put a pastry crust on top with a hole for the bird. Pinch the crust around the bird's shoulders allowing the head to stick through the pastry. Follow the directions for baking your pie and serve with the bird in place. Makes a great conversation piece!

5 out of 5 stars Love those pie birds!   August 30, 2008

We tried out the pie birds with our favorite Marion berry pie recipe. It was probably one of the best we've ever made.

5 out of 5 stars Too cute   May 31, 2008

I admit to being a foodie, and Elton Brown (host of Good Eats) said I HAD to have one of these, so... I could have purchased a much less expensive version, but let's face it, four and twenty may be an awkard number, but one cute little pie bird was a must have. I will not bake fruit pie again without this treasure. It really does vent the pie, and prevent the juices from spilling out and burning in my oven. Pie bird - yes. This one is up to you, but I think it's too cute.
