Product Description Fry two different types of food at once or extra-large batches with this professional-style dual-basket deep fryer. The unit's generous 12-cup food capacity allows for frying family-size quantities in a hurry, while its oblong-shaped baskets nicely accommodate large pieces of chicken or fish. An adjustable thermostat allows for selecting a variety of frying temperatures, and the signal light indicates when oil is ready for frying. Another highlight includes the unit's 1800-watt immersion element, which provides quick preheating and fast oil-temperature recovery. The appliance's cover acts as a spatter shield when lowering food into hot oil, and its heating element and enameled pot remove easily for quick cleanup. For great restaurant taste in a convenient at-home size, the deep fryer measures 16 by 15 by 11 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty

There has to be a better fryer out there November 17, 2008 cj After reading all of the wonderful reviews here I was almost ready to order it. Fortunately I held off and found the same unit at a local retailer for less than advertised here. I would not buy this product again. While I have not got a thermometer that reads high enough to verify the temperature, my guess is that it is running cool as others have reported. I have used it now four times, twice for home made fries, once with sweet potato and once with regular potato, and once for beer battered halibut, and most recently for beer batter onion rings. The results were no better than using a heavy pot on the stove top. Food still comes out every bit as oily and greasy as cooking on the stove top, maybe even worse, which leads me to suspect it really is not achieving a high enough cooking temperature. Grease still splatters everywhere; the cover is useless as it warns not to use it when cooking any high moisture content food, such as french fries, fish, etc. Even when it is in place it does nothing to capture the odors. Where I live moving it outside as one reviewer suggested would mean limiting my frying days to about 3 times a year. The description says the unit is built of stainless steel, which led me to believe the entire unit is constructed from stainless, but the outer shell that appears to be stainless steel in the picture is in reality just tin, at least on my unit, and is of a thickness and quality achievable at home by anyone with an 8th grade shop class skill level and a pair of vice grips. The inner tub is painful to empty once the oil has cooled, as well as to wash. I swear my fingers are being sliced to ribbons on the thin edge of the frying tub because it is so sharp, and when slippery it is impossible to hold on to. It is no wonder that the unit cannot maintain temperature; since there is no mass to it what so ever. The baskets are also very thin and flimsy, I would speculate that the total cost of materials and overseas labor to produce this unit is around $3.00. I am very happy to have not paid the asking price here and I would have returned it for a refund had I paid the listed 'original' price. For materials and workmanship this is about a $25.00 item. If you are thinking of spending the $60.00 on this, save a while longer and get into the next price point up for something of quality.
Excellent November 12, 2008 Yolanda Broome (chicago,Illinois) Ive owned 3 other fryers but I must say this one is the best by far.Ive had no problems with oil temperature at all. The fryer takes a bit over a gallon of oil so be sure to invest in a decent strainer to strain and conserve your oil. We fried chicken, fries, fish etc in large quantities and came out with uniform great tasting results every time.Ive had the fryer for a month now and it was well worth the money and cleanup was a breeze. It really does give restaurant quality results and I highly recommend it for the price.
Presto 05466 ProFry October 31, 2008 la fleur de la nuit I love it! It works great. The tempura and fried chicken that I tried the unit on was excellent. Everything came out crispy. This is my first fryer so I can't compare it to anything else. I'm very happy with it.
Very practical October 29, 2008 Larry G. Crowder (Mobile, AL) I originally had some doubts about getting such a large deep fryer because I normally just cook one or two servings at a time. However, there are times when the rest of the family is over for some of my home made french fries, fresh fried flounder, amberjack or whatever was put in the fish box, so I needed a larger deep fryer. The Presto ProFry works very well for all occasions. Because of its large capacity you will not experience a very large heat drop when you start cooking your food. And, the heat up time is not out of line with smaller units. br / br /It is easy to clean, and I did order the single basket from Presto for a reasonable price, but have not used it yet. br / br /You may have to make a little more room for it when it is not in use because it is fairly large as compared to a fryer like the small rounds ones that are so popular. br / br /The lid is rather flimsy, but functional and does not justify a reduction in my rating. br / br /It is simple - no LED displays or other electronics to gum up or fail. There is just a rotary knob and an ON/OFF light - simple and effective. br / br /I have not checked the temperature with a thermometer, but my cooking experience (too many years to mention) tells me the oil is getting to the correct temperatures in a reasonable amount of time. br / br /
Great Product - great gift! October 15, 2008 K. Varner (Western North Carolina) Presto 05466 ProFry Stainless-Steel Dual-Basket Immersion-Element 12-Cup Deep Fryer br / br /This is the best deep fryer I have ever used. Easy to clean, easy to use. I like that the pan can be removed. I purchased a large strainer and add a cheese cloth to strain the oil. It works perfectly. Products are aways crispy. Great for large families or for individual use. I have cooked fries, catfish, hushpuppies, chicken, calamari, shrimp with excellent results. I get about 15 to 17 uses out of the oil because I strain after 4 or 5 uses continually adding new oil to bring up to oil level. Do not let fryer stay on continuously because you will burn the oil. I have had other fryers but they were too hard to clean because the nozzle stopped up and the pan would become caked.
