Editorial Reviews:

From the Manufacturer
The Pulstar pulse plug represents the first technological advancement in spark plug design in the past 100 years. Enerpulse, the manufacturer of the Pulstar pulse plug, develops environmentally-friendly ignition products through the application of Pulsed Power Technology (PPT). Pulstar pulse plugs were designed to increase peak power of the spark plug so it can ignite gasoline in the engine's cylinder more completely with less cycle-to-cycle variation. The result is more engine torque, more horsepower, and better fuel economy.

Test results show significant improvements over spark plugs.

Better Fuel Economy
Pulstar pulse plugs improve engine efficiency at the very moment of ignition by increasing the spark volume and energy density. Increasing the energy density of the spark makes ignition more precise with less cycle-to-cycle variation resulting in better fuel economy and driving performance than available from spark plugs.

Increase Horsepower and Torque
Pulstar pulse plugs look and fit like spark plugs, but incorporate an internal capacitor to deliver a spark 10 times more powerful than a spark plug. This faster ignition burns more of the fuel in the combustion chamber, generating more pressure in the cylinder. The increased cylinder pressure pushes the piston down with more force, which in turn, generates more torque to the crankshaft, more liveliness to the throttle, and more power to the wheels.

The Pulse circuit releases a powerful pulse of power.

Test Data
Recent tests demonstrate that Pulstar pulse plugs improved the fuel economy on 2005 and 2007 Prius Hybrid vehicles by 6% to 8%, or approximately 3-mpg. This 3-mpg increase produced by Pulstar means that over its life of approximately 4 years, carbon dioxide greenhouse gas emissions will be reduced by 1,344 pounds or over half a ton, making it evident even small changes like changing your spark plugs can translate into big differences for the planet.

Product Guarantee
Pulstar pulse plugs are safe to use in all vehicles. They come with a 30-day no questions asked return policy and are guaranteed not to void your car's manufacturer warranty or damage your engine when properly installed.

3 out of 5 stars Plugs are plugs...   October 2, 2008
H. Beyer (Houston, TX)
I purchased these for my 2000 2.2L 4cyl Chevy S-10 pickup. These are plugs...That's all...They don't really seem to do anything but work like a plug. They are very delicate too. I broke one while installing and now I'm out $25.00. (I replaced just that one plug with a Bosch 2+ and everything seems fine) Now keep in mind that Pulstar DOES tell you EXACTLY how to install these and I didn't take that advice.

They run fine at the .45 gap in my truck.

Now all that being said I think they do produce a better "burn" in the cylinder. I Seafomed my truck with these plugs and it produced substantially less smoke than when I had previously done so about 3 years ago. I like to think it was because the plugs burned up most of the product in the cylinder. So if you're having issues with emissions these might help.

Overall, these plugs work fine as long as you FOLLOW the manufacturers recommended installation procedure. If you need new plugs and have the cash to throw away go for it. If you just need new plugs and want something that may "increase" performance look elsewhere or purchase standard plugs. For less money you can get 100,000 mile iridium or platinum plugs or even Bosch 4+'s. Pulstar's plugs are 50,000 mile plugs.

My truck is fitted with a K&N FIPK (air intake) a Flowmaster 40 series muffler and a JET chip power module. Now even though this review is far from glowing I must say that my sluggish 2.2L is WAY more fun to drive with all that stuff and these plugs are part of that package...So who knows?

Have fun but use common sense and remember that plugs are just plugs. Seriously!!!

I just tried the AD1 plugs in my car today and my car ran terrible. Buick said my cars spark plugs are supposed to be set at .06 but Pulstar says to set the gap at no more than .045. Unless there is something else that my mechanic and I are not aware of these plugs just plain won't work in my car.

I bought a set of these plugs for my truck (2.3L 4cyl engine).
the engine ran a bit smoother with the new plugs, but this
could just be due to the fact that the previous plugs were toast. As far as my gas
mileage, it is the same. This being said, there is no reason to pay 2.5 times for
something, so save your money and buy the NGK Iridium plugs (I prefer the NGK
to the Denso plugs).

I've calculated my gas mileage many times under different driving
conditions and it never varies by more than 1 MPG. That is because the age old way
of calculating by using a full tank of gas averages out. So, it is actually a pretty good
way to compare something such as the Pulstar plugs.

3 out of 5 stars Gap Specification Problems   June 9, 2008

I just ordered 6 Pulstar Plugs from Amazon (AD-1 for a GM vehicle). Amazon compatibility chart told me which plug model to buy and then it gave a .060 Plug Gap recommendation! I then went to the Mfgr. website to see what they had to say about these plugs. One item that got my attention was their statement that all plugs are sent from the factory with a .045 plug gap and that you should never exceed this gap. Okay to use a smaller gap but not to exceed .045...Amazon's recommendation can lead to trouble it seems to me????Pulstar AD-1 Pulse Plug, Pack of 2
